Sorry to read about your problem.
I think most often the watch will malfunction when the quick set mechanism is pushed a few times when the hands are positioned between 10-3. Perhaps this has happened over the lifetime of the watch more than once. I was taught by an AD to set the watch to 6:30 when using the quick change mechanism. You got the watch used, if I'm correct...
So you don't know of the previous owner treated it... Which can also be an important factor when we speak about reliability or fragility. It is not more delicate than other Calendar movements, IMO. Best, Nicolas
