Jaeger Lecoultre Master Ultra Thin 39 Black Dial, our next PuristS' watch?

Nov 09, 2018,07:49 AM

No pressure, here, at we have to think about everything, but I have an idea I want to submit to you before deciding anything.

Here is the MUT 39 Jubilée, unveiled in 2013, and the rose gold version, which came just after.

Let's keep the case, which is spectacular in 39 mm with this very thin profile, " couteau shaped ", 4, 05 mm high, its movement, the Cal 849 which is a superb manual winding movement.

Now, let's work on three options: First, the hands, leaf shaped ala MUT 39 Enamel Grand Feu...Instead of the Dauphine hands.

Second, let's change the color of the dial and let's opt for a black one.

Third, an option: Solid case back, or see through? The solid case back will help to keep the ultra thin height. With a see through case back, we'll probably have a 1 mm thicker case.

No black enamel, even if it would be a dream, but the idea is to maintain the cost below 10 K Euros, to allow most of us to get one.

Steel case, for the same reason.

Special engraving on the case back?

What do you think?

Would you be in?

Once again, it is just to test the waters, before deciding anything.

Because I have one or two other Jaeger Lecoultre suggestions, in my tortured mind... wink

Looking forward to reading your comments and thoughts,

Best.

Nicolas

Fabulous idea

caliber 849 needs to be back in non precious metal. The smaller diameter cases were perfect as its meant the movement filled out the space. As you probably already own(ed) that, you are trading off ultra thin in exchange for solid back. For me its got to ...

Not me

Already own a 1931tribute and MUTM so I need a manual display back. But thats just me.

I’m biased...

Because I own the rose gold version, but I’d definitely keep the hands. They give the watch an Art Deco vibe.

+1.. Count me in, pls !.. As to my minimal suggestion(s), see below !

1/ Love the idea, ss of course. 2/ Leaf hands are very much ok ( Maybe still a tiny little lume ?) 3/ Keep thin case=>> ie. obviously solid caseback; special engraving would be quite nice.. (IMO: Seethrough not that important, unless manual movement comes...

Okay this one looks to me

very strange ,like a watch in 2D rather than 3.

I remember this watch at SIHH 2013, it was the best value SIHH watch of that year in my opinion.

Oh, and a big "mooooo" to that crazy footwear!

I like this great idea

1. Steel Case 2. Black dial 3. Leaf hands (this would be important to me vs. dauphine) 4. Solid case back. (Sapphire not a deal breaker as long as PP engraving on the back) If all the boxes were ticked being flexible on no. 4 I’d be in.

How many do we need? I really like this idea Nicolas.

A truly elegant PP watch and a high complication the ultra thin..... and within the grasp of mortals with an Uber cool design. Fingers crossed this pleasant dream comes true. Thanks for your great idea.

Would be in...

And agree to all your suggestions. Would prefer the solid case back to maintain the thinness. Great idea!

Sorry, while in General a Fan of JLC and also this watch, I'm Out.

At least in this Combination. I already own a steel/black dial time only Laurent ferrier and a White Gold /black dial time only vacheron. I'd think about it, If it were Rose Gold or yellow gold with a black dial.

Parfait!

Great suggestion Nicholas! As you said: - steel - feuille hands - black dial(with crisp ar coating!) - glass back, the extra ‘thickness’ as the case back would be sunken in our skin anyway so they could maintain the spectacular blade shaped case Count me ...

Merci, Ambos. We are 6, now.

No message body

Nicolas, I don't know what other JLC watches you have in mind ..........

......... for the nest Purists Watch. In my personal opinion, the icons of Jaeger LeCoultre are: 1. the Reverso 2. the Master Ultra Thin 3. the Memovox For the next Purists Watch, my preference is towards the Memovox. This doesn't mean the MUT isn't a goo...

Brilliant...!!!

Salut Nico and thanks for the initiative...! Would be on board as well - however as an alternative to the black dial, may I suggest grey (perhaps w sunburst?) to give a better contrast to a black strap and open the options to dark blue or brown straps whi...

Great Idea Nicholas..

I’m just considering the options and will get back to you.

I'd be in

Appreciate your efforts...if you think of a Reverso (but not grande case) I’m in too Best, Mahesh.,

if you make a black dial...

 By: mahesh : November 18th, 2018-10:34
i got to find a white one in the market to make it B&W ;-)

LOL! [nt]

 By: amanico : November 18th, 2018-10:47

I wouldn’t be in for a black dial...

 By: Tiggermelad : November 21st, 2018-16:47
... but as a Reverso has been mentioned can I make a suggestion? I still regret the passing of the Reverso TT 1931 and its related variants. The slim case, simple traditional dial, sword hands and wind movement perfectly show the elegance of the Reverso d...

Count me in...would like a blue dial ..

Though I do have the PT version.

I vote strongly for a Master Geographic.

The current model in steel with silver dial is a dream piece and its travel theme would suit our the world wide connection between all the purists on this site perfectly. If you can make that happen I’m in!!! ...

I have an idea!

 By: descartes1 : December 14th, 2018-10:31
Was PuristsPro founded in a particular city? If so, then how about if we were to designate that city on the dual time wheel (perhaps in a special color, like red). This is similar to what Lange does with the Timezone Watch for the special concours event i...

Nico if this comes together (especially if it’s the Master) please save my space on the list.

 By: descartes1 : December 14th, 2018-14:33
How cool would it be to have a JLC with Vallee de Joux as a city on the ring! I don’t know of any other dual time/timezone watch that uses this special place for a designation.

Excellent suggestion! [nt]

Great initiative!

 By: claes_t : December 14th, 2018-12:49
However, from my personal perspective, I’m currently heavy on the sports/tool watch side of the spectrum. Something like this would be interesting as a dressy alternative. I would rather see something in the region of 37mm Best /Claes

Allons-y! ;) [nt]
