First of all, welcome here and congratulations on your Master 8 Days.
This Master 8 Days is a very interesting and appealing watch. The movement has been used by JLC in the Antoine Lecoultre ( platinum ), but also in the Rose gold version which was unveiled in the same year than the A.Lecoultre ( 2003 ).
Then, came the Master 8 Days, the one you own, in steel.
It was welcomed with mixed feelings as the owners of the first A Lecoultre or Rose Gold versions were not too happy to see that it came one year later, in steel.
Nonetheless, this is a great watch, with an excellent movement, which was used by other brands, such as... Panerai in its Radiomir PAM 190 / 197 / 198.
To give you some answers, no the Cal 877 is not hand finished. The level of decoration is not the same than the Cal 879 housed in the Septantieme, which is finished in... White gold ( for the Septantième Pt ) or rose gold ( Septantième rose gold ). Therefore, the Septantième Cal 879 has a swan neck which is absent in the Cal 876.
The Cal 876 received a hand made finish in one watch: The 8 Days Perpetual Skeleton ( 876 Sq ). For the non Skeleton perpetual calendar 8 days, no hand finish.
Unpopular? Certainly not, but it was in competition with the Reverso Grande Date, and with the 15 Power Reserve movement of the Master Minute Repeater, Cal 947, if I am correct.
After a good 7 or 8 years life, JLC discontinued it. Is it sad? Yes! But it seems that automatic movements are more in the air than manual movements, which I deeply regret.
Is this a bad watch? Certainly not! A very nice and interesting one, which was developed in different versions and limited ( or boutique ) editions.
Enjoy.
Nicolas
