Dear Nicolas,

Jan 09, 2021,06:56 AM

It is true we have no idea how many spare/extra 38.5mm steel case/case components are leftover in a storage drawer at the Manufacturer from the steel TTG 2014 project which are necessary to make the antimagnetic case properties. However, the Manufacturer is vertically integrated, and importantly, they have all the blueprints/specifications from that project to easily retool/reprogram the CNC machines to relatively easily reproduce said steel cases/case components for this project should they need more than they have in their stockpile; the 40mm MC date case is too thin as is and does not have the extra components to make it antimagnetic within that thinner case (nor is the size as aesthetically pleasing to me).

Additionally, let us adopt the dauphine hands, which go beautifully with the thin arrowhead non-arabic applied indices to further distinguish this watch from the TTG1958 2014 steel watch (in addition to lack of sword hands, thin rectangular non arabic applied markers and cross hairs which made it a TTG Geophysic).

Admittedly, the critical piece in proposing this project to the appropriate JLC special projects manager is you. I have never been to the Le Sentier headquarters, and am a completely unknown person to those at JLC. All I am is a guy who lives in Arizona, USA, owns the steel TTG 2014 watch as well as my grandfather's gold 1966 LeCoultre retirement watch, and have been a respectful fan/contributor to the JLC section of the forums on this site since circa 2014, with admittedly frank and direct opinions, often supportive, sometimes constructively critical or hopeful, but always passionate and honest -- I have openly offered to speak directly or via PM with JLC employees who read entires on this forum for the manufacturer, but have never been contacted.

Whereas you have contacts and access to peoples at JLC headquarters, and are admired and respected by all. This project would require you to use your position to present, in our optimal uncompromised form, this idea to the appropriate peoples in the most positive/enthusiastic way, push a little if necessary, and find out at what price point and minimum order number they would need to actually proceed with the project. I know you could do these things, and hope it is not presumptuous to ask that you do so.

What else would it take to convince you to present it on our behalf? Again, my ideas are concrete, but can be tweaked as necessary if such little tweaks would make it all possible. Please share your thoughts about all this, either publicly or privately PM, so I have a better understanding of the process as needed.

As always, you have my friendship and respect,
Marc

practical serious suggestion for purist JLC watch...

 By: remarque : January 8th, 2021-19:08
With Nicolas' help, mayhaps we can convince JLC to produce a purist edition watch like this... I would be the first to commit to buying one, and would love to see them numbered as well. Since it is my idea, maybe I could reserve number 1 of X, if X watche...

I'm in.

With a retro domed crystal please!

I'm in.

I'm intrigued

Reserve #26 of 50 for me.

Yes

In. And if there were no objections, I would take number 13.

Perhaps Geophysic would be too ambitious..

 By: toxly347 : January 8th, 2021-23:46
.. but maybe a "simple" dial reverso with small seconds at six and a most simple and subtle crosshairs around the seconds hands, without individual second markings, as a small "tribute"to Geophysic, might work.

Either would work very well

I love the idea of the Geophysic, though

Me too!

 By: amanico : January 9th, 2021-05:52

the price is not settled, and the case can be remade. it is not a geophysic, there are no intersecting lines. must any antimagnetic watch be a "geophysic" (there never was a black dial geophysic anyway)

 By: remarque : January 9th, 2021-00:18
the point is can we convince JLC to make us our own antimagnetic black dial watch with components that are all available at the factory, be it 10 or 25 or X number, if we have committed funds. and as a TTG1958 owner, I would not be bothered one bit. Manuf...

Be sure that I tried, before, for a special Reverso, specially made for us. Two years ago, to be precise. The answer was negative. Now, I can come back to them and ask them a special watch for us.

 By: amanico : January 9th, 2021-10:12
That will be with great pleasure. A Special Geophysic, that would be great, but they rather have the Polaris program in the tube, rather than the Geophysic, alas. I will see. What was funny with your post is that I played the game several times, choosing ...

Sounds good. I believe we need to establish a minimum firm number (25? 30? more?) of solid commitments which we can include at your initial presentation, because we want our initial encounter

to be as favorable and convincing as possible -- as it is said, there is no second chance for a first impression. Plus, are there lessons learned from you prior failed attempts that we can use in our favor? We need to be sure we have a real cadre of conse...

Richemont, who owns JLC, also owns IWC and Vacheron amongst other high-end brands.

 By: remarque : January 9th, 2021-12:10
I mention these two specifically because both IWC and Vacheron have made limited/special edition watches with Hodinkee, both of which of course did very well. We should use this argument in our proposal: there is no rational reason why Richemont subsidiar...

London boutique green dial reverso (26 pieces) Thai edition yellow dial (39 pieces) Does anyone know if these were made at the request of the boutiques, or JLC headquarters decided to produce them and then made the announcement to the lucky boutique? Has ...

Even if a 40 with an MC case.

I love the idea.

 By: sirdavid : January 9th, 2021-04:04

I do think $6k is far too low for the ask.

 By: r0gue : January 9th, 2021-04:48
While I like the idea and like paying less for great things, I suspect Jaeger-LeCoultre would need to see a lot more margin per on such a small run. Like $10k or even $20. The Geophysic was almost $10k. They made 800 in steel. I'll grant you in this scena...

Would be great, but I also think the piece would be in the $12-$14K range minimum.

 By: vitalsigns : January 9th, 2021-07:58
I’m sure JLC could make the TT Geo case again, but the number of the edition would heavily impact cost. Perhaps increase case size (all other proportions maintained) to 39 mm to account for the perceptually smaller black dial. I would skip dauphine and le...

Though I absolutely agree, I suspect that won't be an option unfortunately.

Disable the true second automatic rotor?

 By: vitalsigns : January 9th, 2021-10:50
JLC can do it. Price is always an issue, of course.

interesting idea

It will be my number three request fo JLC after Duometre Rattrapante Purist Edition, and JLC Tribute to Deep Sea Purist Rouge

Duly noted.

thank you Master

Hehehe, I will do so!

How about a 1931 Reverso Tribute for WatchProSite readers too Nico?

 By: patrick_y : January 17th, 2021-11:23
Casa Fagliano strap, a thin Reverso case, and who knows... some special dial or special hands. Or it comes with 2 dials and 2 sets of hands (so our users can eventually swap), and maybe two straps. We'd choose one vintage dial/hand set and one modern dial...

I thought about that, too.

I hope we have enough WPS members who are in the mood for a square watch!

 By: patrick_y : January 18th, 2021-10:55
While the Reverso is not unpopular on WPS, it's still in the shadow of the round watches here! Admittedly, I wear my Master Ultra Thin more often than my Reverso, but that's only because my Reverso is in need of a new strap!

+1!
