Date...I fully agree
The movement is tried and tested, so I know it is reliable and easy to service in the future, and yes, it is slightly too small for the case, but not a deal breaker 
The date is nicely done, though like you, I would agree that the positioning would have been better closer to the periphery. But I like the use of the black background and the size is sufficient to read easily, which is now a huge requirement if there is a date complication.

And it looks so spectacular in this colour. Like you said, the complete absence of text apart from the brand is a great design choice!
It certainly stands out, especially in the boutique.
Not many dress watches can double up as casual with a black dial and stay cohesive. This is one of the few out there that does it well.
