I have been very fortunate to see some nice watches on my wrist! smile

The problem is to be able to keep them on there…

 

When it comes to black watches, I must say I am very conservative.

My taste is very simple and basic. I prefer white metal watches.

Foremost SS. PL/TI if I have no choice, like with the NSA.

Boring? Maybe, but that’s what I like.

 

It’s like dials, I like them clean. You have seen most of my watches, so you know what I mean…

 

But if I look beyond my own personal feelings for black watches;

 

I think they still have to prove themselves.

Will the coatings hold up against wear and tear?

Will the fade like tritium indexes? Will everybody hunt grey watches 40 years form now?

Who knows, only time will tell…

 

When it comes to ceramic cases, personally I like to feel the presence of my watch.

Ceramic is very light (same issue like TI), so not my first choice.

 

I also think that some brands/models go too far.

What I mean is that some models, eg military feels natural in black, but when it comes to more dressier watches I think it doesn’t match.

 

All in my personal opinion.

 

That said, I must confess that I wouldn’t mind to have one or two in my collection, as a complement…

Lately I have realized that I am a bit too narrow in my collecting.

Maybe its time for me to expand my horizon…

 

One thing that is great with watches – there is one for each taste!

And if there isn’t someone will soon make that one smile

I have seen the picture of this watch in the Jaeger LeCoultre BTQ in Dubai Mall. It's a limited edition of 5 pieces worldwide. I am posting it because I don't know much about watches. The Gyro 1 was a limited edition of 75 pieces in Platinum where as this...  

I doubt it is stainless steel...

To me, it is platinum, with a black PVD coating. Will it keep its value? Future will tell, as for the great majority of watches. Best, Nicolas

Asked them to confirm the base metal, if its platinum then it will surely retain its value. I like the red hands on it rather than the Black PVD and Gyrotourbillon itself is a marvel. Thanks, RS

It's not about the metal but about the watch itself, I have read the book on Gyrotourbillon 1 which I bought online and it reveals a lot of facts about this watch. I really like the calander mechanism, its very complicated but its very hard for me to unde...

I have not seen it in flesh yet but if I am lucky I might see it in the JLC BTQ in Dubai Mall as they are organizing the SIHH 2010 event in the btq and they are trying to get some special pieces from JLC. RS.

whether a watch retaions value... loo at some of the SS Pateks... sure at base metal value, PT will of course be more than SS but we all know base logic does not apply to us watch dummies

I don't think it is something as ignoble as PVD...

I could see JLC doing it in Black Titanium or black steel, where carbon is mixed in while the metal is molten. This would give it a permanently black finish - whether it gets scratched or not. The only exception is that it COULD be black ADLC, which would...

Platinum looks nice too, but the only thing I liked in the Black PVd version is the red hands because the this watch is not easy to read, atleast for the time you get the red hands. RS

Agreed on the contrasting red hands on a darkened skeleton dial.

watches are more to be admired than any other factors but I do like to have dials which are easy to read(its just my personal preference). You are very passionate about watches and specially for JLC, I really admire your passion and your knowledge. RS.

You are, of course, correct. To each his own taste. I, too, have pretty much been only interested in white metal (also preferring SS) watches, with only a few exceptions. We can be boring together. Is the AMVOX V on your mind, perhaps? ;-) respo
