I have seen the picture of this watch in the Jaeger LeCoultre BTQ in Dubai Mall. It's a limited edition of 5 pieces worldwide.
I am posting it because I don't know much about watches. The Gyro 1 was a limited edition of 75 pieces in Platinum where as this is just steel as the base metal and then black PVD, do you think it will hold it's value against the platinum version?

RS
To me, it is platinum, with a black PVD coating.
Will it keep its value?
Future will tell, as for the great majority of watches.
Best,
Nicolas
Asked them to confirm the base metal, if its platinum then it will surely retain its value. I like the red hands on it rather than the Black PVD and Gyrotourbillon itself is a marvel.
Thanks,
RS
See it, feel it , be captivated by it... THAT is the most interesting the most exciting, don't you think?
Best,
Nicolas
Much more than the number of Gyro I available...
Best,
Nicolas
It's not about the metal but about the watch itself, I have read the book on Gyrotourbillon 1 which I bought online and it reveals a lot of facts about this watch. I really like the calander mechanism, its very complicated but its very hard for me to understand as its too technical.
RS.
The Ballet of the Gyrotorubillon, added to the Retrograde Perpetual Calendar, and to the Equation of Time, without forgetting the 8 Days Power Reserve, makes me dream...
If only...
Best,
Nicolas
I have not seen it in flesh yet but if I am lucky I might see it in the JLC BTQ in Dubai Mall as they are organizing the SIHH 2010 event in the btq and they are trying to get some special pieces from JLC.
RS.
So be prepared to a ...Big Shock!
Best,
Nicolas
I could see JLC doing it in Black Titanium or black steel, where carbon is mixed in while the metal is molten. This would give it a permanently black finish - whether it gets scratched or not. The only exception is that it COULD be black ADLC, which would be very hard to scratch, let alone scratch off.

Master 8 Days Perpetual SQ Black PVD.

I am not a big fan of black watches, even if I made an exception for the Amvox II Paris Boutique.
But when it comes to high horology, I'm not sure it is a good idea to blacken the case and the dial.
Not a firm position, only doubts.
Here's mine, to give you an idea:

Platinum looks nice too, but the only thing I liked in the Black PVd version is the red hands because the this watch is not easy to read, atleast for the time you get the red hands.
RS
But in real, my LE is not that hard to read.
Therefore, on this kind of piece, do you read the Time or do you admire it?
Best,
Nicolas
watches are more to be admired than any other factors but I do like to have dials which are easy to read(its just my personal preference).
You are very passionate about watches and specially for JLC, I really admire your passion and your knowledge.

The Gyro I is an absolutely fantastic watch in all aspects!
Design, innovation, technique, craftsmanship, …!
Will the PVD version hold its value?
Black watches are very popular right now, but in ten years?
Who knows?
Since the first time I saw it in the metal, back in 2005, it has been haunting my dreams!

There is only one problem with the Gyro I for me, except the price.
That is that each time I had the chance to see the watch IRL, the only thing I can see is the tourbillon!
The rest of the watch I haven’t really seen, except in pictures.
It’s like you get hypnotized by the tuorillon, and after that you can’t take your eyes of it

Awesome pics, Blomman. I clearly need to spend some time with you, as your wrist attracts the nicest watches. LOL.
I am interested in black watches right now, as it happens, with my eye on a couple of possibilities. I used to think little of black watches, but, while still not my typical or favorite option, I can see the allure better now than was the case a while back.
Who can predict future values on any watch or even trends v. enduring style? There seems to be little rhyme or reason as to which watches do well and which do not over time in terms of value, and we are all wise not to think about these as investments.
But as for trends, I think black watches are here to stay.
There are and have been a lot of black watches available for a very long time -- just think of the many digital watches that seem to me most often black pieces. The fact that black is a relatively new trend among high-end mechanical watches just means that these manufacturers came late to the party. Granted, some of the manufacturers are doing very interesting things with black and various case materials today, but I think that this, like large watches (another "trend" that I think is here to stay), is not so much a trend but rather a preference among men in particular that is here to stay. Men have been wearing lower-end black watches for many years. In which case, black watches may have as good a chance as any other style watch to do well in the future in terms of value. What do you think?

Thanks, Respo – you are more than welcome to visit!
I have been very fortunate to see some nice watches on my wrist!
The problem is to be able to keep them on there…
When it comes to black watches, I must say I am very conservative.
My taste is very simple and basic. I prefer white metal watches.
Foremost SS. PL/TI if I have no choice, like with the NSA.
Boring? Maybe, but that’s what I like.
It’s like dials, I like them clean. You have seen most of my watches, so you know what I mean…
But if I look beyond my own personal feelings for black watches;
I think they still have to prove themselves.
Will the coatings hold up against wear and tear?
Will the fade like tritium indexes? Will everybody hunt grey watches 40 years form now?
Who knows, only time will tell…
When it comes to ceramic cases, personally I like to feel the presence of my watch.
Ceramic is very light (same issue like TI), so not my first choice.
I also think that some brands/models go too far.
What I mean is that some models, eg military feels natural in black, but when it comes to more dressier watches I think it doesn’t match.
All in my personal opinion.
That said, I must confess that I wouldn’t mind to have one or two in my collection, as a complement…
Lately I have realized that I am a bit too narrow in my collecting.
Maybe its time for me to expand my horizon…
One thing that is great with watches – there is one for each taste!
And if there isn’t someone will soon make that one

You are, of course, correct. To each his own taste. I, too, have pretty much been only interested in white metal (also preferring SS) watches, with only a few exceptions. We can be boring together.
Is the AMVOX V on your mind, perhaps? ;-)
respo
Well, it’s one black one I wouldn’t mind having in my collection…

So you have seen Hybris Mechanica set in flesh.
How 's the watch sounds.
