When Diversity meets Poetry, an " Eloge du Temps " by JLC

 By: amanico : November 23rd, 2010-23:41
Sorry for this evidence, but there are several ways to express Poetry in Time, and undisputably, JLC excels in this Art. From the pocket watches, and their unbelievable " cortège " of complications, to the wrist watches, without forgetting the traveler cl...

is pure poetry! But the enameled moment of pure poetry is not for the peace of my mind but for rashomon that I now have because of it. :0) marvelous post Thank you Damjan

Torquemada had to do something, Damjan.

Let's share our pain on the enamel dial, my friend. Not the most expensive piece of Dream, not the most affordable, too, but how wharming, envouting and captivating it is. Did you also notice how I insist on the enamel Reverso? I hope JLC will hear us... ...

Did I noticed??

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : November 24th, 2010-13:06

Powerful, indeed! Best, Amigo. Nicolas.

Your post is like a maelstrøm, Nicolas . . .

 By: Dr No : November 24th, 2010-11:31
. . . powerful imagery, and very compelling. I'm still working on a suitable buckle and strap for my vintage Jaeger, and hope to have both within a month or two . . . cordially, Art

Thanks a lot, Art.

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-22:22
As for your strap, konwing your taste, no doubt that it will be a superb outcome. Can't wait to see that, as I need some ideas for my recent additions... Best, Nicolas.

Another masterpiece post...

You're too kind, Marcelo.

It is an easy stuff, here, as the cause is far from being a lost case! Best, Nicolas

I don't even know where to begin...

 By: respo : November 24th, 2010-05:53
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the States, but you have given us a a feast for the eyes, for which I am thankful. That first Atmos is simple and lovely -- when was it made? You included an enamel Reverso -- you sly dog, you know that is what I have been...

Well, Respo.

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-07:58
To me, the first Atmos I posted was made in the 30ies...Very Art Deco, isn't it? As for the enamel Reverso, I do hope that JLC will listen to us...Soon. The Globe is mine, indeed. I've hidden it for almost one year, now. More pics to come, now that I've r...

Fabulous grouping of the sheer diversity of JLC...

 By: watchme : November 24th, 2010-05:56
without going too deeply into the "tool" watches. I love the pic of the edge of the Duometer. It really shows JLC's upscaled modern finish ability. (I mean, come on, JLC provided PP w/most of their movements and complications up 'til the Stern family took...

Toolwatches are also a very interesting topic, Dean.

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-23:42
And they really deserve a dedicated post, but this is another topic. I agree on all you said about the fact that Lecoultre provided many movements to the most prestigious brands. JLC has a prestigious past, and an amazing present, in my opinion. The Duome...

The gyro tourbi is simply poetry in motion. But here's something that might be missing

 By: patrickmaniac : November 24th, 2010-06:02
A remake of the master quartz from the 70s? Although it's more for nostalgic sake than anything else since most JLC are mechanical now. cheers PAt

Strange watch, indeed, with some interest from a collector point of view..

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-09:07
But would it fit in the Poetry category??? Best, Nicolas.

Ah.... Poetry lies in the eye of the beholder. :)

 By: patrickmaniac : November 25th, 2010-05:49
cheers PAt

poetry is in your post

I was totally captivated by this piece and wanted to share with you a little "poetic quote" on watches and watch collecting. "When art and craft and intricate design all come together in a powerful little package of precious metal and perfectly fitted lea...

Before I'll be able to put it so eloquently in words, I will need much more english lessons. We don't need to analyze, to ALWAYS analyze, I agree with you. Sometimes, letting our sentiments speak is much better, mainly with this kind of pcitorial essay. B...

Pure poetry

Pure and great. Excellent photographs that make me smile. The ultra-thin pocketwatch is simply great. Hopefully it is inspiration for a future model... Cheers!

Hello, Rik!

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-23:49
Happy to know that you liked it. I've been very recently bitten by Ultra Thin watches, wrist or pocket watches. There is something magic and poetic at the same time, about them, which took me time to fully appreciate Best, my friend. Nicolas

You did it again, thank you ..

And when you think that I limited Diversity to Poetry!

 By: amanico : November 24th, 2010-23:56
I didn't speak about the toolwatches we all know, belonging to Chronometry, Military, Sports, Diving, etc... It will be sad when you have the feeling that you're at the end of your collection, my friend. For the moment, you are in the euphory of Collectin...

Thank you, my friend!

I've been digging into other brands recently, but JLC is the grande dame of style for me. There is an interesting novelty item here - any more info on that globe clock? Is it electric?

And wait to see the Wall of Movements, at the Heritage Gallery.

 By: amanico : November 25th, 2010-22:37
You will love JLC more and more. About the Globe, it is an eight days movement, from 1930. The electic plug is here only to put the light on. Best, Nicolas

...you have truly captured the beauty and majesty of La Grande Maison. Thank you Nicolas N

Thanks, Echi. Nice to see you here, too.

 By: amanico : November 25th, 2010-22:46
Yes Echi, we should think about it this way: There are Traditional Manufactures, and others which are Innovative. But how many are both Traditional and Innovative at the same time? Food for thought. Best, Nicolas

Great post!

An ode to the Gran Manufacture, what is not to love but their love of time

One of the nicest watch ever made by JLC. It was a LE of 35 pieces, released in 2004. The retail at this moment was around 84 000 Euros. The last one was sold 2 years ago, at the Paris Boutique, and it was one of the biggest mistake I did, as I had to get...

breathtaking...poetry in deed...

I already said it, but this is simply one of my top five favourite watch. Simply spectacular. Thanks for your input. Best, Nicolas

Really Enjoyable

 By: Meehna : November 25th, 2010-21:21
Thanks for sharing your insights into JLC. You really capture the depth and breadth of the collection --and, as you said, didn't even include some important historic models. What a feast for the eyes.

A stunning view of JLC!

 By: jschen888 : November 26th, 2010-05:02
Nicolas, what a stunning exposition of the great JLC watches and clocks! I really enjoyed your annotated view of the brand. I do not own a JLC (yet), but I have always wanted to have an Atmos someday. And oftentimes, I hear that Master Ultra Thin seducing...

MUT and Atmos...

 By: amanico : November 26th, 2010-06:38
You don't have bad taste, my friend! That would also be a very elegant ( and poetic ) way to sum JLC. Thanks for your input. Best, Nicolas
