JLC SIHH 2012: The new Master Control.

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-06:21
The Master Contrrol is dead, long life to the Master Control! Don't under estimate it, behind its apparent simplicity and sobriety, the Master Control, which was also called Master Grande Taille, is a symbol. The Master Control is the first watch from Jae...

Certainly a JLC

 By: moc : February 20th, 2012-06:45
all the ingredients are there, recognisable at a glance. A very nice, discreet, elegant watch for sure.Personally I think the rose gold gives a touch of retro that suits this watch very much. Superb pictures as usual. Mo

You mean for the watch?

 By: moc : February 20th, 2012-07:02
Well its very appropriate for what it is I think... Mo

Yes, for this one.

Mother of all questions

 By: Ambos : February 20th, 2012-08:02
Great pics and comparisons! I fully agree with you on the steel version... Could be my first silver dial... But which one is the final version? Dauphine or my all beloved Alpha hands? Best regards Ambos

AFAIK, Ambos

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-08:04
The hands are definitive, as shown on the pics. Best, Nicolas

The lugs are superb as in some of the recent watches.

 By: Ruckdee : February 20th, 2012-08:10
I would have liked this piece even more without the date but that is personal preference. Hmmm.... how nice this case would be for the next Master Calendar in the future! Thank you for the detailed pics and the history lesson, Nicolas. Company press relea...

You raise an interesting point: With or without date?

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-08:13
Suprisingly, for once, I would say with date... Why? Because without date, it would have been to close from the MUT 38 mm. And with date, it is strongly linked to the Geomatic. But this is also my very personal take... Best, and thanks for your input, Ruc...

He He... Now you got it! :)

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-12:30

prefer this new release much more than previous one...

 By: FanFrancisco : February 20th, 2012-08:38
... although it only decreased 1mm in size, it gives nicer and more coherent appearance than the previous one. of course, i still like the first release of Master Control. moreover, i also in particular like some small cosmetic changes, e.g. the "SWISS MA...

Simple, my friend.

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-13:53
The Cal 889 was introduced in ... 1894 or 1985, 8 or 7 years before the Master 1000 Hours.... So, since 1992, the Cal 889, now 899, is submitted to the 1 000 Hours Control battery of tests. Simple, isn't it? Best, Stefan. Nicolas.

For me...

 By: watchme : February 20th, 2012-09:41
I like the 18ktR due to the nice contrast of the rose hands and indices against the silver sunray dial. The steel IS very nice, but the hands blend a bit too much for me. The happy median would be a steel case with rose hands & indices on a honey-brown (w...

We'll certainly have other versions, Dean.

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-13:56
I am sure that a Black Dial will come, even if I have no confirmation of this. Best, Nicolas

Ahhh, here it is

 By: stromer : February 20th, 2012-11:19
I have been waiting for the details about the new Master Control full of expectation. It seems it was worth the wait. Though I find it difficult to grab the full impact of the changes on the overall aesthetics the pictures look very promising. I will have...

True and pure classic design

 By: Mostel : February 20th, 2012-11:42
In its price class, there is nothing as nice, period. If I were looking for a simple Time date watch... unbeatable. Thanks Nicolas.

It was an instant classic when it was launched and every version

 By: Miranda : February 20th, 2012-12:15
Since has not disappointed If this was a car it would be a BMW 3 series 320 Nothing fancy Understated Functional Perfectly proportioned True class Imran

A nice evolution.

 By: foversta : February 20th, 2012-12:41
It is a perfect "all-around dress watch"... at least this is waht I think when I see it. The thick bezel makes it less formal which is good point in order to create a clear difference with the UT. This Master Control is a rare exemple of a 3 hands watch f...

Here I agree with you on the choice of the metal, Fx.

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-14:05
This SS is so deliciously understated... A great deal. Best, Nicolas

Just as it needs to be!

 By: Starman : February 20th, 2012-13:36
Yes, this truly is the Master Control. Actually this is what you call the prototype of a dress watch; elegant, balanced, simple and classy. This is the the Calatrava with an affordable price tag IMO. 39 mm, perfect, the smaller bezel, very nice! If this w...

Well, Starman...

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-14:07
A black dial may well come, my friend. The question is when. As for the hands, it seems, from what I've seen on the PROTOS, that the SS will come with different hands than the RG. But these are protos, so nothing is definitely sure. Best, Nicolas.

great post - but confused

 By: jml_watches : February 20th, 2012-14:48
Hi Great post - but I'm confused. I'm not clear on what the hands will be like - you show the steel model and then the rose gold & they seem to have different hands, then both together & both have dauphine hands. Which one is correct or is one an earlier ...

To be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to the hands. BUT

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-21:39
I just asked my contact to give me an answer on that detail. So I will tell you as soon as I have the answer. Best, Nicolas

Finally...

 By: Echi : February 20th, 2012-19:41
Sorry, Nico. Am late to the party on this one. I agree with Ruckdee re: history. It would be nice (marketing or educational) for JLC to mention the history of a piece where applicable. With Swiss watches, they play on history a lot to sell so they should ...

What I didn't like on the first Master Control was the writing on the dial.

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2012-21:46
I much prefer the style of the latest Master Control, to say all, but I do see very well what Clavio means, for sure. Like you, on this one, it doesn't disturb me to see the date, maybe because it is strongly linked to the Geomatic? Ni idea of the Rose Go...

The black strap makes it!

 By: elliot55 : February 20th, 2012-22:50
So loving the black alligator strap on the stainless-steel. I replaced the brown alligator strap on my Master Control with a black one and I couldn't be happier!

The new Master Control looks much better than the old 40 mm, but I still prefer the 37 mm Master Grande Taille. - the Master Grande Taille has a nicer, better proportionaled case - the 18k gold Master Control Seal on the backside - a second inner soft iro...

I agree with you on many points, except on the dial...

 By: amanico : February 21st, 2012-07:36
I find the new one to be neater, and more sober with its unique line... Thanks for your input, Livius! Best, Nicolas

OFFICIAL CORRECTION ABOUT THE HANDS.

 By: amanico : February 21st, 2012-07:25
For those who asked, I have just been told that the correct hands for the Master Control were the Dauphine, for both versions, like those on the Rose Gold version. For your information... Best, nicolas

To me dauphine means GOOD

 By: PavelMSC : February 21st, 2012-08:49
Sounds like good news to me. Might consider buying one actually. Buuuuuut not untill I get myself a Master Ultra Thin Moon which still looks hot ;-)

I didn't dare saying it. ;)

And yes, for me one authentic JLC incarnation, and a welcomed and well- done revival . - indeed, the DNA of the Geomatic can be felt , Enjoyable, this feeling ! Thank you, as so many times, for introducing this well-bred and balanced companion ! - my very...

I think some picture are from the previous model...

 By: clorio : February 24th, 2012-20:56
Hi amanico, I think some pictures (like 9 and 10) are from the previous stainless steel version. I distinguish them for the hands, compare your last picture (gold and steel versions) with number 9 and 10. Regards, This message has been edited by clorio on...

No, Clorio, these are all pics of the new model.

 By: amanico : February 24th, 2012-23:34
Yes, the hands are different, but both are protos, and the definitive hands will be like those on the Rose Gold model, on the last sde by side picture. Best, Nicolas
