You've been busy!

You've been busy while visiting California.

I've heard of Walter, I've seen photos of his work, and yet I never knew he lived in California.

Thanks for the introduction!  And great post!  It's always great to read someone who understands the machines used to make these machines.

Did you find any nice Danish pastries in Solvang during your stop?  When I was in college, I had little weekend trips to the countryside in Santa Barbara, and on Sunday morning I made the trek up to Solvang/Buellton for Sunday breakfast.  The pancakes at Paula's are the best, along with Danish Kringles that were quite good.  I'd bring some back to school for my mates.  Sometimes I bought four or five gigantic Kringles and had to eat them for the next few days.  Even brought one once for a PuristSPro meeting.  In retrospect it's a good thing I didn't get an overdose on sweets or become a diabetic.

Now there are two reasons to go to Buellton/Solvang!

 By: DonCorson : April 21st, 2015-23:48
One of the worlds pre-eminent clockmakers lives and works just hours from LA. So a recent trip to the city of angels was a welcome excuse to visit him, David Walter, at his shop in Buellton CA. David, born Australian, but active around the world over the ...

I know of one that has been installed at a customer's place and I understand that one more is ordered. It seems possible that we will really get some independent measurements some day. Don

DW5s are available...

Or at least they were. A small number have been delivered and installed, and I imagine David would be able to make more if they are ordered. I think there are a couple in Europe. - Greg

An Emporium of the Wandering Clockmaker

Thanks Don for the visit. Some of David Walter's early clocks look like an old English clock with fusee and chain that I picked up in a 2nd hand shop in Singapore. I don't mean the function as David's is a striking clock but the shape and style of the clo...

Great report and great pictures.

I, too, did not know there was horological genius out there. The only thing I ever was aware of in Buellton was an exceptional steak house-Hitching Post II?! I have to add that after drinking the tremendous house Pinot there I doubt I or anyone in my part...

Really a wonderful report! Such cool clocks, and a really promising pocket watch!
