I thought that you could tell when screws haven't been blued by heat when the slots aren't blued - in this case they are heat-treated but the blueing doesn't extend so deep - can someone please elucidate? Best E.

... as far as I learned from Andreas Hentschel: First, the screws in the movement are heat blued. Whether the slots are achieving blue colour depends on 1. the volume of the screw. The less volume, the easier the slots get blued as well. The screws used i... 

That is helpful - I had guessed re the volume question but wasn't aware of the nickel-plating issue. With these screws, is it the thickness of the head or that the slot is plated that keeps the slot silver in colour? Best E.
