Why ????

Yesterday this came up for sale on A Collected Man.
Took less than 30 minutes and it was sold.

I guess for Florent Lecomte this is good publicity and a confirmation that his work is top. A Collected Man is already very selective with the watches they offer and selling within half an hour is extremely fast

But I honestly don’t understand the seller.
You had a very special piece and you sold it that fast? You’ll never be able to get it back cause Florent Lecomte makes less than 8 pieces per year.
If understand people selling Rolex, Patek, panerai, let’s dat as good as every brand to fund another watch. If you regret it you can always find thousands of them.
Selling something very, VERY rare … even something you were involved with to create it …. I don’t get it.

I don't know the retail but I don't think there has been a huge gain

It might be the rare case when a collector is not happy with his purchase and is glad to let it go without speculating on it. The price is the same of a new calatrava😎

People sell their watches for various reasons

so I feel it is not quite right to pass judgement. You will notice a white dial Murakumo by Kikuchi Nakagawa just sold by the same dealer last week. This watch had a 12 year waiting list before the order book was closed. This watch was min!. I took delive...

The independent watch market has changed some time ago. Not just the buyers, but also the watchmakers (not all of them of course, but a noticable amount).

Passion for watches has been replaced by money and clout. In the past, you got to talk to an independent watchmaker and see his watches in person before making an order. Nowadays, you’re supposed to get into a waitlist or orderlist without seeing the watc...

4.000 CHF retail watch on Unitas movement was sold for 32.000 £ and you are saying that was cheap? 🤔 Am I living on a different planet? 😅

When you have 40+ watches you aren't really attached to any of them, generally.

And I know a lot of people who were "big collectors" at the time that this was made that have totally lost interest in watches so they have sold off 99% of their collections. The hype is fading.

I don’t know enough about brand and model.

But for me the question would be re its retail price. If this is much higher then it makes sense. But I agree if it sells this fast then you didn’t charge enough.

So-called 'enthusiasts' of horology have changed over recent years to BUSINESS due to the Central Bank's purposeful 'Everything Bubble'.

If this was TimeZone circa 1998... yet it is 2024 and everything seems to be for sale. To be fair, certain manufacturers are equally as guilty... cheap and easy ideas like a Tiffany blue dial instead of working on new innovations. Horology BUSINESS 2024 i...

FOMO, “on to the next thing” etc

Most collectors / buyers these last years are consumed with the next best thing. Heads get turned very very quickly and sometimes in directions that make little sense. If you are ordering a watch pre production and needing to wait several month or more to...

I absolutely understand your point of view.

I dont know the personal reasons from the seller, maybe he needs too 🤷🏻‍♂️. But of its just to make a quick buck then he will regret it at some point imho

Don’t judge

Who knows why they sold. Maybe a health issue and their kids don’t care about watches, etc. That $$$ amount is not nothing Personally I’ve sold 2x pieces made for me because I didn’t like them quite as much as I thought I would. Honestly I have another ve...
