Hi!
I think Nomos and Habring^2 both make excellent watches. Both also provide great value, in my opinion.
I love my Nomos Zurich--the quality is very high; the design is fairly distinctive; a real stunner in its price range. The date is large and well-integrated into the dial. The watch is fairly slim, but it's narrow bezel, makes it seem large for its size. The case, which has, I believe, 8 different parts, needs to be seen in the metal to be appreciated fully. The movement is beautifully finished and keeps excellent. The movement is a manufacture movement, but it's very simliar to the Pesaux 7001...if memory serves...with addition of an automatic winding mechanism.
I also love my Habring^2 Chronograph. It is true that it is an ETA 7750, but I doubt anybody has ever tuned this movement more successfully than Mr. Habring. He uses a chronometer-grade escapement, and my example is a superb timekeeper--easily exceeding COSC standards. It is also true that the cases Habring^2 uses are fairly generic, but they are first-rate and very practical, very straightforward, which is the style/aesthetic that the Habrings cultivate. The dial, and I wish I had access to my photos here, is beautiful. Everything about the watch is done to the highest standards in a real watch workshop by real people in very limited numbers. My Habring^2 doesn't have a date, though I've seen many with dates in the metal. I think the Habrings with the date at 6 o'clock look the best...
It's a cliche, but I'll say it anyway, you can't go wrong either way. I would think of the Nomos as being for someone who prizes design with a capital "D" and the Habring^2 as being for someone who wants the ultimate "affordable" watch-insider watch...
Regards,
Jon
