New watch and brand - Aaron Sarauer and the 119C

Apr 08, 2023,12:11 PM

I am very excited share a little bit about this because it isn't every day a new Canadian watch maker rises to this level and puts himself out there with his own watch.  I personally have a pile of respect for what he has done and the amount of effort he has put into this watch.  I do also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with Aaron.  I got to know him back in 2022 as we "bumped into each-other" on-line and I was immediately taken by what he was doing and his level of skill when it comes to watch finishing.

It was at that time he mentioned to me that he was working a new series of watch.  Today, I have a pleasure of providing some details and photos.

The photos were not taken by me, nor is this my watch.
Aaron Sarauer, a skilled watchmaker based in Saskatoon, Canada, has recently released a new timepiece - the 119C – and it is something I am very personally excited about.  It is extremely rare to have a watch of this caliber come out of Canada.

Sarauer is a WOSTEP alumnus, which involves the highest level of watch repair and servicing. WOSTEP stands for the Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program, which is considered to be the most prestigious watchmaking school in the world. As a WOSTEP trained watchmaker, he has undergone rigorous training in the art and science of watchmaking, including the use of specialized tools and techniques to repair, maintain, and restore fine timepieces.

The 119C watch is a testament to Sarauer's commitment to excellence and his passion for horology. The watch has been designed entirely in-house and features an incredible amount of hand finishing and hand work in every component.

At the heart of the 119C watch is the SH1 movement, a hand-wound 18,000vph caliber with a stop seconds function based on the 6498 design. The hour/minute is offset from center, and seconds are located at 6 o'clock. The mainplate and bridges are made from German silver, and the crown wheel has a unique design, being secured from the backside of the barrel bridge. The pallet fork bridge is made of steel, and the name plaque is made of gold.

What truly sets the 119C watch apart from other timepieces on the market is the incredible amount of hand finishing that has gone into every component. Aaron builds and finishes nearly everything from raw machined parts, including forming a Bréguet overcoil for his bespoke balance and regulating system. The result is a watch that is not only incredibly accurate but also stunningly beautiful.

The guilloche dial is particularly impressive, having been hand-turned on a rose engine by Darren Tiffany in Arizona. Made of brass and then coated, the dial is a work of art in its own right. The outer section of the dial features intricate guilloche patterns, while the applied numerals and hands are made of steel or gold.

The case of the 119C watch is 39.5mm x 10.8mm, with a lug-to-lug length of 48mm with a lug width of 20mm.  It comes in a stainless steel case made of 316L and the case has been designed and made by Aaron himself. Precious metals are also an option upon special request. The 119C watch is a limited edition timepiece, with only 29 watches in the series. The base configuration of the watch is priced at $29,900 USD, which reflects the incredible amount of hand work and craftsmanship that goes into creating each timepiece.

For those who appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into creating a fine timepiece, the 119C watch is a must-have. With its incredible attention to detail and unique design, this watch is sure to become a collector's item for years to come. Aaron Sarauer's commitment to hand finishing and hand work has truly created a watch that is not only accurate but also a work of art.

It’s a lot nicer than a hockey puck!

It's great to see a new Canadian independent watchmaker entering the fray. The dial attractive and the proportions are good, but the star of the show will be the hand finished movement. Pricing should be in CAD, but that may scare people away.

Absolutely gorgeous watch!
