The time display reminds me of the clutch plates on my Ducati (especially the hour circle). Some other similarities to a watch (and I may be stretching here... ) are a need to be properly adjusted at all times and, in the case of a wet clutch, properly lubricated to maintain optimal performance.
Put two clutch plates side-by-side and maybe this works...
