As with Dufour, I'm pretty sure these guys do not want others working on their babies. I know this may seem wrong to some, but if a "competent watchmaker" were to mess up in any way the finish or a part, as does on rare occasion happen, they owner is then stuck. They will not supply new parts to other watchmakers.
I don't believe for a moment that there are more than a handful of people on the planet, able to finish their movements like the afore-mentioned watchmakers and their few employees. So, again at this rarified level, I see no negative to their choice to produce "proprietary" micro-mechancal art....
If you are talking about big producing brands, then I agree to some extent.
Either way you are on to a winner in my book if you acquire any of these fellows superlative work!

thats a very nice report. Gauthier was on my shortlist, but i wasn't convinced then. I went with DeBethune instead. but its about time to re-look his work again. either that or Alan/THG has a lot of explaining to do :)- You considered the Breguet relative...
