KURONO - Chronograph 2
Feb 09, 2021,05:14 AM
KURONO are the Japan-made watches designed by independent Japanese watchmaker Hajime Asaoka and have recently produced beautiful timepieces that share many design details of Hajime's exclusive handmade atelier watches.
I have been fortunate to see one of Hajime’s atelier watches and they are stunning, starting at around $50,000 USD they are unfortunately all allocated.
The great news is that Hajime wanted to design watches that were accessible to more of us than the atelier watches would allow and at a lower price without compromising the DNA. A limited production of 500 pieces will be made.
The new Chronograph 2
As part of the dial design, different levels of ambient light and light sources were taken into consideration.
The brown layers portray deep grey undertones with the tachymeter taking an almost reddish hue. At noon in the sun, the center of the dial should exude a rich brown tone with the orange copper and silver tones look well judged.
At night, the dial is designed to become more stealth-like, with the high-polished chrome surrounds, hands, and hour indices becoming the highlights.
Hajime Asaoka started his watchmaking journey in 1997, taking his inspiration from the traditional handmade practices of George Daniels but throwing in his unique perspective of refinement and modernity.
His passion for watchmaking and design is absolute.
I’m pleased report that a portion of proceeds go to selected children's charities in Japan and across the region.
I hope to be able to bring you a full “on the wrist” report on the Kurono Chronograph 2 when it is released.

I love the colors of the dial. Even the date doesn't bother me. Thanks for the photos. M4
I got that email from them
By: batholith : February 9th, 2021-10:22
stating when they'll start taking orders. Looks great and is very tempting but I'm not so sure about the legibility of a 38mm chrono.
Good point but ...

It’s worked in the past for Patek Philippe amongst others.
Yes

and for others as well. But I am not so sure if they were used as one would use a chrono. The Heuers while even smaller at 36 have higher contrast dials as far as I recall. Not that it really matters; it has been a long time since I've used a chronograph ...
True

with a high contrast dial it could work. But then again, I'm not sure it really matters as we just don't use wrist worn chronos for precise measurements anymore.
Good luck 🤞
