Finally!
I only just got it last night, but my initial impressions are really good. I’m a huge fan of MB&F, so I’ve really wanted one of the MAD editions as an opportunity to own a watch by a manufacture that would otherwise be unobtainable. I liked the pictures that I’ve seen of this, but obviously you don’t really know until you see something in the metal, so I’d mentally prepared for the idea that I might not like it as much when it actually arrives, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
I’ll make the same comment that basically everyone else has in their reviews, but it’s true that it is so much more wearable than you would think from pictures and dimensions. It’s a 42 mm case, which is quite large for any watch, but it’s surprisingly slim profile so it doesn’t feel like other 42 mm watches I’ve had in the past (most of my watches are between 34-38mm). Because of the relative affordability of it, I’d been expecting the case to be a little more hockey puck like, but it’s got a really nice curve to the crystal and the case sides, and if you exclude the obviously unusual design it wears like a normal watch.
The strap and the clasp feel really good quality, and the pale mint green of the strap tones down the overall loudness of the design and green dial.
I’ll do a video at some point, the spinning rotor to simulate an SL 1200 turntable is really cool. Overall, this is a watch that I had expected to mainly own as a collectors item, but now I’ve got it is one that I expect to wear as part of my rotation.
