Patrick_y introduces the MB&F Legacy Machine Split Escapement EVO, highlighting its distinctive aesthetic and technical innovations. His initial impressions focus on the watch's unique split escapement design and its surprising blend of haute horlogerie with practical, sporty features. This article delves into why this particular reference resonates with collectors and what makes it a significant piece within MB&F's acclaimed Legacy Machine series.
Woke up to a beautiful day with a beautiful blue sky. Air is good today! And now, you can apparently see a beautiful sky blue on the new MB&F Legacy Machine Split Escapement EVO model. The latest model from the very exclusive MB&F brand. Decide you want one? Better get on the phone fast and call your MB&F dealer for one!
The special part about this watch is the split escapement. The balance wheel is on the dial side of the movement, while a long shaft connects it to the actual escapement on the back side of the movement where the pallet fork escapement interacts. The watch also features a date display - practical. And the watch also features a hand-wound 72 hour power reserve movement. 72 hours is so nice, because you can really put the watch down for a couple days and the watch will still be keeping time.
The watch can back up its sporty look with actual sporty statistics. The case features 80 meters water resistance (good enough for swimming and possibly snorkeling if you don't go very deep, don't go diving though) and a screw down crown! The gigantic balance wheel should also have a high inertia and a slow beat, so minor shocks shouldn't affect the accuracy. Although, this watch probably shouldn't see anything too rough.
The cool blue dial looks great. I haven't seen the watch in person, but it reminds me of Rolex's Platinum Blue models. I can virtually guarantee you won't feel blue when you see this dial!
Here's a YouTube video with more on this watch.
Big congrats to the team at MB&F! Why do they make such likable things? At 75,000 CHF, 75.000 Euros, or $80,000 US Dollars; the price of this watch is very dear, and the limitation is very strict. But what a watch!
Key Points from the Discussion
The limited production nature of MB&F timepieces, such as the LM Split Escapement EVO, directly contributes to their high price point due to the inability to amortize significant research and development costs over a large volume of units.
The MB&F Legacy Machine Split Escapement EVO is an extremely limited edition, with only 25 pieces produced, underscoring its exclusivity and collector appeal.
Seeing the watch in person confirms its striking appearance, particularly the 'sky blue' dial, which is further enhanced by live photographs.
The high demand and limited availability of MB&F creations often mean collectors must prioritize acquisitions, sometimes having to forgo new releases due to existing orders for other highly anticipated models like the LM101 Willy Wonka edition.

I like it a lot
I wish it were smaller.

They'll probably make a smaller version eventually!
Although I have to say, they don't wear as large as the statistic suggests.

That's actually relatively reasonable pricing considering the craftmanship imho.
