Independents

Democracy - My Fellow Community Members:

I wish to formally present the following resolution for your collective consideration.

WHEREAS, there exists several distinct organizations, companies, and holding companies (to be called the “Industry”) whose objective is to design, develop, manufacture, and sell time keeping mechanisms; and

WHEREAS, there exists several distinct functions within the “Industry” including, but not limited to: marketing, sales, distributor, dealer, assembler, esthetics designer, movement designer/innovator, service technician, accounting, brand manager, executive management; and

WHEREAS, there are several distinct manufacturing types of organization including:
•    Those who design esthetics only and outsource manufacturing;
•    Those who design movement only and outsource manufacturing;
•    Those who design esthetics and movement and outsource manufacturing;
•    Those who select and assemble from existing parts;
•    Those who design esthetics only and in-house manufacture;
•    Those who design movement only and in-house manufacture;
•    Those who design esthetics and movement and in-house manufacture,
•    Or any combination of these, and

WHEREAS, there are several distinct size organizations measured not only in revenue and profit, but in number of units made and sold, number of dealers/distributions points, frequency of new models, etc, and the “independence” of an organization is measured not by it’s size, but by the legal and/or financial relationship that limit or direct it’s business directions, and

WHEREAS, there is a segment of the “Industry” that focuses on mechanical (rather than quartz) movements (to be called the “Mechanical Watch Industry”), and

WHEREAS, there exists an increasing (though still relatively small) number of living individuals whose passion for watches, their esthetics and movement design, development and innovation, has been brought to live through years of training, education, prototyping, development, and perfecting, and whose work has been determined by others in the field to “good” enough to be applied to the creative of such pieces at anywhere within the “mechanical watch industry” (to be called “Living Watch Makers”), and

WHEREAS, within the “Industry” or the “Mechanical Watch Industry” there are few organizations (to be called “Dependent Organizations”) where the leadership and direction is clearly tied directly to one, or a few, individual “Living Watch Makers” as measured not only in their “control” over the direction of the organization (due to influence, ownership, or the lack of anyone else in the work shop to disagree with them), but in their names being “one the door” (literally or figuratively), their direct “hands-on” participation in the design, development, manufacturing, assemble, and other skills associated with those of a watch maker, and the generally accepted knowledge that without them, the whole thing would just fail to exist, and

WHEREAS, these “Living Watch Makers” have chosen to bring their skills, passions, and souls to the “Mechanical Watch Industry” through “Dependent Organizations”, I hereby propose:

1) That the AHCI & Independent Haute Horlogerie be renamed:
•    “AHCI & Living Watch Makers working at Dependent Mechanical Watch Organizations” or
•    “AHCI & LWMWADMWO” or
•    “AHCI & Dependent Organizations” or
•    “AHCI & Independent Organizations” or
•    “Living Watch Makers & Their Organizations” or
•    “Independent Living Watch Makers” or
•    “Independent Watch Makers” or
•    “Independent Living Watch Makers and the Organizations Dependent on them” or
•   [ADD YOURS HERE]

2) That a committee, consisting of representation from all known and unknown planets, types of time keeping devices, the present, the past, and the future be convened to hear these, and other, name proposals with the task of developing a process for testing, marketing, and selection one and for crafting a budget for this process.

3) That the “official” mission of this community be:
A forum for the discussion of  “Living Watch Makers” have chosen to bring their skills, passions, and souls to the “Mechanical Watch Industry” through “Dependent Organizations”.
