So the critical issue appears to be to contain the lateral movement of the balance. This is because the clearance between the impulse jewels (mounted on the balance) to the escapement is only 30 microns.
Now it makes sense. And yes, from the pics it should self start.
Probably best not to play tennis with it.

The swiss lever is much more resilent to shock
than the Daniels' co-axial (according to RWS) or the Daniels' double escapement (according to Frodsham). Why that is, I hope someone can explain, please!
