My humble opinion about this calibre is that it was made to focus the eye on the finishing. I am sure that it is possible to put much more into this volume, but Romain Gauthier wanted to put the finishing and the fact that almost everything is made in his own shop, more so than Dufour for example, in the foreground.
I have been to his shop twice, the last time just recently as seen on the forum click here . After the first visit, while I could see the great work being done I found the movements over-decorated, if not to say gaudy. After this last visit I have revised my opinion. I find them very well finished and quite satisfying. I do not know if I have changed or if the decoration is being done differently, or both.
I did not try to inspect the gear teeth under the microscope so I can not say definatively to what level they are polished or not. But I will say that the rest of the movement is finished to very high standards, even the portions that are not visible to anyone other than the watchmaker who will someday dismantle the movement for cleaning.
Personally, what I can't warm up to is the dials, but, thankfully, everyone has different taste.
