My opinion is that H9 is intended just to be ...

Mar 14, 2012,02:32 AM

... a talking piece.

From this point of view, it is successful as we are quite numerous to have taken time to post about it ;-) !

However, I feel this is not a brilliant idea and Beat Haldiman's talent deserves better projects.

Cheers.

Haldimann H9

 By: cisco : March 13th, 2012-05:58
"Joke", "marketing", "buzz", many things were said when we discovered this thing with some friends at Baselworld, even if I get this opinions I liked it. The watch itself Aesthetics Haldimann make beautiful watches, the H2 is for some amators the holy gra...

Could fill it himself then :D ^^ [nt]

one I would not get! I can't understand a man as talented as Haldiman going for this kind of hype! A hype his clients are probly averse to

I could :) (if I could ^^ )

 By: cisco : March 13th, 2012-07:49
There is surely a marketing effect there but it is still limited. It is an intellectual pleasure above all here. Your RJ is definitely something I will never get Alex Francois

It would be hype if there weren't a finely crafted movement inside

 By: ei8htohms : March 13th, 2012-17:43
And I gleefully hope that there is.

I am pretty sure there is.

 By: cisco : March 14th, 2012-06:21
You can't take risk on that . (completely out of subject, I read again and again your article on the Lange 1815 , so long ago now ) Francois

Well said. I missed Valentin's previous article when he posted it and only caught it later. I'd like to say that I share both his and your viewpoints. As for me, among all (yet certainly a limited number of) watches that I know of, only the Simplicity, H8...

If you are "tickled" by this watch, I suppose a wealthy person can be too. Great taste with this one and the simplicity ! cheers Francois

You show nicely the evolution and the interest of Haldimann to go around this controversial subject. My personnal impression is that the H9 is a bit apart, because the first two were focussed on the mechanics, the H9 focus on sensation and owner. That als...

his dial maker and hands maker were angry with him and the only device he could deliver at Basel was a watch missing some critical components.... I am with Alex and some others above, why would I get this? If I wanted to demonstrate wealth and spend frivo...

There are other ways for sure...

to spend your money. But like modern art comparison done before, you can find it stupid, useless, etc but some can also find that brillant for some reasons. In the case of the H9, some will find it brillant (I do), some will find it stupid.

Thanks for your impressions. My view is .....

 By: dreamer8 : March 13th, 2012-16:56
the H9 must be viewed in the context of what the creator did with his previous creations to see the " proper" progression/meaning / intention in art speak. I use one example from the Art world, the slash paintings by Lucio Fontana. If you merely look at h...

I was about to compose a response ...

... to Cisco's original thread and then I came to your reply and I completely agree. The H9 has to be seen in light of the watches that came before it. If it was Haldimann's first watch we would dismiss it as ridiculous. But we KNOW what beats inside and ...

Looks like progressively...

... things start to be blacked out... I'd say the next version the case and buckle is blacked out. The one after that, it comes with a black sleeve the watch wearer will put on. Then finally, it'll come with a black latex suit. Perfect watch for Cat Woman...

I don't know BH other than that the fact that I like the H1...

 By: Echi : March 14th, 2012-00:04
Having said that, it is all about integrity. Without it, the H9 falls apart. Does BHaldimann strike you guys as somebody who's frivolous? Is he about hype? I cannot say because I do not know him. But I would like to give him and his vision the benefit of ...

Good questions !

this "watch" or "thing" brings a lot. But no one would like it to be empty, you still look for something when you buy a high end watch like Haldimann. You look for craftmanship, mechanical feelings , "luxury" , and it has it all with a nice central tourbi...

Macchiavelli. This watch is brilliant from all the reaction it brings, from the owner point of view when you wear it and from outside. Few watches are really different, this one (if we can call that a watch), is definitely ^^

I think its a waste of time better yet a waste of no time.

I love watches because of the micro mechanics but if the micro mechanics doesn't do anything it makes no sense. I understand it's Art but I am not into art. That's just my 2cents. Best SamEE

Interesting point, but all other watches do that.

 By: cisco : March 15th, 2012-01:08
It doesn't do nothing, it ticks, you can hear it, wind it, and look at it, it just doesn't give time. And you have a secret movement which is actually beautiful. Making a far fetched comparison, buying a vintage Longines 13Zn, you have a chronograph like ...

If it stops beating would you send it to be fixed?

 By: DaMctosh : March 14th, 2012-19:18
Or would it express the fragility of time and futility of perpetuating mechanical motion? Or would it mean anything if you wear it but don't wind it? Or should we even contemplate these questions for what may be a pretentious piece of expensive jewelry?

I would :)

Hmmmmmm not drinking the kool aid on this one

The brutal truth is that when people start spending silly money on a watch that is not really a watch, I think it really goes to show that we as collectors have spoilt them - the watch makers.

We are spoilt with this passion and happy to be so :)

 By: cisco : March 15th, 2012-13:58
not the matchmaker. Watchmaker are the toy maker that makes us happy. If we were sane, we would not be here This "watch" make you focus on its beauty, on the feelings, on the sound of tick tock of tourbillon. Your view is not altered by time or a caliber ...

What's the Haldimann H10 going to look like? :P

 By: AnthonyTsai : March 19th, 2012-19:12
Is the H10 going to be a black dialed watch with no movement? LOL I don't know what to say about this H9 ... I feel sorry for whoever is going to purchase one of these H9. Even if I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't blow my money on this H9. What...

I suppose Haldimann is just thinking a bit further

It is called Reduction. Imho Reduction to what is essential in high end watches. Do you like minute repeaters or tourbillon because they tell time? My daughter has turned 3 years old recently, and like every child she knows what is essential. She doesn't ...
