(Mega)quartz ! (More) Affordable Watches
Still enjoying this one a lot. Would I prefer it was a true vintage chronograph from a storied brand, of course. But that’s not really possible and at this point not practical either.
We have a lot of amazing watches here, a huge concentration of high end horology and all the hottest pieces in the watch world over the last few decades.
But, we also have many less notable watches here, many of which are very affordable. And people’s enjoyment of these is pretty much equal.
To this point I was a brand specific collector event recently, my first larger event since 2019, and had several discussions about these watches from FM. For a number of people these mecaquartz vintage inspired chronographs have become a day to day favourite too.
These days we are in a very good place as collectors and buyers insofar as the variety of interesting choices in the (more) affordable watch category.

If you can handle one somewhere I would encourage you to do so,
This watch was 1/3 the price of the original Ming 17.01 and feels like a Patek in comparison. At the time, 2017, the Ming felt like new ground was being broken at the sub $1000 price point. FM far exceeds that.
I have to agree, they have done a great job at this price point.
And to be fair, it would still be a great job at multiples of their price point.
Indeed. I’ve had this one, and another, for about a year now.
Much of the satisfaction from any watch is visual, and these do not disappoint. The entire package from dial and hands to case and pushers / crown do feel like someone really thought it through.
Lots to enjoy
I am really happy I took the leap into FM as well… but interestingly I have not worn them as much yet as I like. The beauty of these is that for an enthusiast they offer so much joy without being expensive and given today with crime and personal security ...
I have to think that their timing of coming to market has been ideal on several fronts.
Not least with many people’s concerns about wearing high value watches at certain times or in certain places.
I think the next batch will be available end of this month.
At this point these are not continually available for sale.
