They've been doing a lot of things right
Kern & the management team have been rolling out mostly attractive and somewhat affordable watches, and they possibly remain the most affordable brand with the B01 chronograph. Heck, I even bought one (AVI 64 reissue). They have been working closely with collectors to avoid the many pitfalls of reissues (Breguet's Type 20, for example) and offer decent prices with meaningful, historical designs even if you skip the B01. That being said, I have seen their boutiques in airports, major cities in multiple countries, even at outlet malls and they are always empty, as nice as they are. That being said I suspect they are probably not moving enough pieces and why they are trying to add more brands to the portfolio.

Since I really think their new releases have been some long needed spark for a brand that was stagnating.
