The watches I like to wear the most for a trip or at home are my dress watches.
And among them, I don't have a favorite: I took my Cornes de Vache to the north of Portugal, my Laurent Ferrier to the north of Italy, my Chopard LUC to Porto, my Patek 5098P to Florence, etc. In fact travelling or not doesn't make any difference for me as long as it's not during summer. During summer I always take my Tudor BB36 with me, because I can swim with it and not worry about being seen waring a valuable watch. I've sometimes thought of wearing my Alpine Eagle instead (same 100 m WR) but it isn't as understated at all, unfortunately.

I think both are really great watches.

Probably the outlier here but huge complications and a jammed packed dial do nothing for me.

I think for me, the concept of a watch, is twofold. Functionality tells you the time, and is an aesthetically beautiful work of art.

I see perpetual calendars and even more perpetual calendar chronographs as joyful exuberance, not as an attempt to “show off”, but I see your point and, like you, I don't have highly complicated watches.
True, but the biretrograde display is inherently "busy", so it's ok for me personally...
