I think it's indeed a challenging --- but fascinating! --- exercise to try to build the collection that we really want...

Personally, I'm currently at 15 to 20 watches, and I find many of them *highly* nonessential (including at least a couple of Pateks!). My eventual goal, as I view things at this stage, would be to constantly own somewhere between 8 and 10 pieces, and more important, to always increase the "value" of my collection with each new entry.
Defining "value" is of course also crucial here, but let's say that for me it must at least imply "quality", "rarity", and... "Patek" smile Also on this front I have --- and always will have --- to improve a lot, but that's why collecting is so interesting! smile

Please continue to share other interesting and thought-provoking posts! smile
Best wishes

And I don't see myself going to to 12. But as you said, it is all about temptations, tested through time... I like your idea to classify your pieces by function. I should try to do that, in order to reduce my collection to the very essential. Welcome here...

Fully understand the temptations. It took me alot to part with some of the other Panerais, Rolex, Nomos to pare the collection down to the base. I guess where I wanted to build from a base to first address my functional needs and then build again the piec...

What an eclectic and nice collection you own there. Mine is almost always in motion even if I have a stable “core” one. My goal would be to own between 10 and 15 watches but the temptation is constant in our hobby so I already know that I will fail to rea...

It is a real challenge to pair down a collection.

You seem to have nailed the discipline by creating a theme for each watch. Now they have a purpose. Bravo. Bill
