the very interesting presentation of this project.
I am slightly confused though.
Is the purpose of the project to sell watches that are been made 'traditionally'? Yet another make/ brand? Other watchmakers also do that and quite a few are very good at it. Is its purpose to pass on that knowledge to one single watchmaker? Why not to a broader audience? Has the project any educational/ vocational purpose?
I imagine that a lot of very good work is also being done in watchmaking schools, in Switzerland and abroad? Reading the introductory remarks go Philippe Dufour, surely in this period that we live that sees a revival of watchmaking the picture is not black or white?
I also imagine that Dufour et al. are not the only repository of the vast science/ practice that is 'traditional' watchmaking. There must be as many approaches to design, techniques, finish etc, as they are traditional watches and watchmakers ready to engage with the subject. Also some brands… What's in a name, the guardians of time? Isn't that pushing it a bit?
Are the watches designed under the project the result of collegial work? In my opinion not always the best guarantee for the best possible design… Who is the designer, the decider, the orchestrator?
Sorry, as you see many questions… but certainly an interesting project.
