I use to think that a watch or a fine timepiece is most admired and revered when it has some sort of complication built into it and the more of it, the better. There are of course many fine examples of such that do warrant such admiration, both in terms of its technological advancement and the exquisite craftsmanship required to bring it to fruition.
However, I believe that the simple time only pieces will always have a place in our hearts because it basically boils down to the essence of telling time. A quick glance down, a familiar (watch) face greeting us, is all we need in most instances.
