Horological Meandering

Rip, i have to disagree strongly on the Honda Accord vs Mercedes

i have a 2004 honda accord 2.4 ivtec automatic tourer in executive spec. it has full leather, sat nav, cruise in fact nearly everything the S class has except double glazing. it is supremely comfortable at all speeds up to its top of 133. it handles superbly, is large enough for everything i've ever needed to put in it and as you said , is reliable beyond belief. i personally consider it a luxury car for the budget i had when i bought it.

even with my badly mended arthritic broken neck, knackered spine and virtually useless right arm i can drive it 250 miles without needing to stop and stretch. i considered an E class estate when i bought Honda but it wasnt a patch on the accord.

i spent 20 years in the british police force most of the time as a traffic patrol officer in 'high performance' cars and on motorcycles. the honda is probably more reliable and comfortable than many of the cars i drove whilst at work. that includes Volvo, BMW, Subaru,Rover(oh god dont remind me), Ford. i appreciate that it is driven quite differently unless a scooby tries to play on a nice twisty road, but it uses no oil and needs no maintainance other than annual services. as an aside, the Honda ST1100 pan European m/cycle i rode was far more reliable and comfortable than any of the BMW bikes i had previously ridden.

there may be more exciting cars, there may be faster cars, there may be cars perceived as being more luxurious, but honda has achieved near perfection in the Accord. IMHO.

i know this has nothing to do with watches, but i love my car and feel very protective towards it. its our baby so Rip please be kind to it smile

you are quite right though, if we wanted perfect accuracy in a watch we would have radio controlled quartz( Honda) , but we want sublime workmanship and perceived luxury( Mercedes).
