Horological Meandering

One of my prized watches is this 1968 Bulova Accutron 214 Astronaut from 1968. Was lucky to find one with an original "bullet" bracelet. It did have dial wear and a crusty relume, so I sent it to one of the US' leading Accutron repair guys for a little re...

Astronauts are on my perpetual watch list. My 218 just recently received a new battery...had some problems with the second hand turning but the hour/min hand staying still. Worked out it was to do with the stem position. Played with the weights on the end... 

. . . Accutrons, as the electrical bits and pieces used then are almost impossible to re-create today. Some parts - notably capacitors - have a shelf life, so the insertion of an out-of-spec cap could conceivably alter performance. Hope to see this one so... 

... in relative abundance with those that specialize in them.

Perhaps Bill can explain more, but if you upload to PPro, the image stays in the gallery whether or not you delete it and do not use it in the post. The images that Snak finally used in the post are from Photobucket. Andrew

...and changed the picture I originally posted to one that showed more detail. Interesting how the gallery kept that old link considering that I didn't use the uploader at all and manually replaced the image code in the post..

... but rather a copy on the PPro server. It gets around the occasions when the image host no longer holds that picture and the link is dead. I find this so often when I search in the archives and images are no longer there. The resolution does not seem a... 

i had a lot of accutrons a few years ago including one of these great Astronaut MKI's. its great to see one go back to original condition. i always thought that the technology was too advanced for its time and one day collectors would tune into them, but ...
