Piling on here, I have removed bronze patina from water resistant watches with ease using a mild vinegar solution (and accelerated it with ammonia fumes 😉).

As regards the concern over patinated bronze staining the skin, most of the bronze-cased watches I've seen introduced of late have steel or titanium case backs and buckles, in order to avoid staining the skin. (The Genta illustrated above is an exception.)
