Horological Meandering

New decoration for my horological "man cave"

 

Some time ago I managed to find a set of signed prints the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers" commissioned from David Penney to celebrate their 350th Anniversary.
It was a set of 3 drawings (Daniels pocket watch; John Arnold Marine Chronometer and Knibb mantel clock).

This one depicts a one minute tourbillon pocket watch with a fifteen-second remontoire by George Daniels.

(Some of you probably already know about my "Daniels mania" and fondness for Daniels memorabilia and ephemera. 😊

David Penney is a well known antiquarian horologist and horological illustrator and and was responsible for technical drawings in George Daniels' 1st edition of "Watchhmaking" - the seminal treatise on the practical craft of manufacturing a watch by hand.

I find Mr Penney"s work utterly absorbing and enchanting, and am lucky in owning several other prints of his.

It was a limited set of 250. Set 1/250 was sold during the George Daniels Horological Auction in 2012 but sold way above my bid. I was quite lucky to find this one surfacing up for sale recently. Cheers

I brought the full set No. 71/250 when newly offered in 1981 and I still enjoy them every day as does the occasional visitor. The set turn out to have been a pretty good purchase in many ways. I am not positive of the cost however i think it was around 10...

My own horological mancave is somewhat limited to a desk, some books, tools and art in a small part of the house. I'm always looking to expand however and enjoy reading about such finds and others similar passions. I'd love to see some more pictures. ...
