Horological Meandering

I am looking into buying a vintage chronograph. However, it often does not reset back to zero but the seconds hand lands a few seconds to the left or to the right of zero seconds. Are you aware of the underlying reason and how this would need to be fixed?...  

It's a common problem with vintage chronographs.

You just need a good watchmaker.
