The momentum of the hand sometimes is enough to cause the hand to slip a bit and go a bit too far

Even F1 drivers sometimes overshoot their pit stop by inches….

I am looking into buying a vintage chronograph. However, it often does not reset back to zero but the seconds hand lands a few seconds to the left or to the right of zero seconds. Are you aware of the underlying reason and how this would need to be fixed?...
