Mabe some of the ultra expensive leather straps don't

last that long, but the simple farm-raised-alligator-hand-made-in-italy straps that I buy (for more than 50 and less than 100 bucks) last comfortably 1 year and actually more (and not falling apart) and that was wearing them every day.  Now that I am rotating my watches more they are lasting so long I'm not sure when they will wear out.  And they actually look better when broken in..like good leather shoes...they soften and the leather seasons...and that is why some people have so much trouble giving them up.  Then it becomes the new strap that is undesireable because they look like dry cleaned and pressed Levis.  And compared to the cost of most metal bracelets, You could buy a new quality strap every year for ten years...and in the end, you still have spent less than the replacement cost of one bracelet...and you would have had many more choices throughout those ten years.

Bottom line, metal bracelets are old news as technology and as a fashion statement.  For diving use rubber, for climbing Everest use Gortex...for the rest of the time, wear quality leather.
