There is still, in the modern production, a variety of dials.
Look, for example, at AP with the RO and ROO, JLC with some watches such as the Amvox II, Panerai with the Luminor, Rolex with the Daytona, and so on...
The Geomatic received different dials, it is true, and the Geophysic, basically, received 3 dials: The E 168, the Deluxe, and the " Cross Dial ".
The phenomenon is maybe less current, nowadays.

They're not "variations;" they're "limited editions."
I think there is a trend toward setting up an opportunity to charge a limitation premium for any variation. If you take limited editions into account, you can find a great deal of dial variation.

rationalization, or control?
Hi Nicolas, I think product rationalization is probably the reason, but it looks like overly tight control over choices. I can argue (as later in the thread) that making a new dial, while not free of design and production costs, can probably be done more ...

IS what you said Dear Nicolas as production rationalization and the extra time and funding required for product development and marketing and in case they are offering a dial variation then the end buyer get charged a premium price for that again they ask...
