Horological Meandering

I recall very clearly ...

 


... visiting the Sea-Gull Boutique in Hong Kong a few years ago and looking at a series of single and double tourbillons manufactured over a period of about 5 years. There was a very clear improvement in finishing of parts and aesthetic design. The prices were still tens of thousands, but clearly much lower than the Swiss equivalent. But the beginnings of quality were present.

It will be interesting to see where they go with this. Obviously they need original designs and time to build up horological legitimacy with this complication. But if they do it well, it's better than buying an 'off the shelf' Swiss Tourbillon and popping it in the front of your watch for a good window display. Money can't really buy legitimacy.
