The first Patek Philippe that I met was the 5000 and 6000 models. I really liked the 240 caliber within and its micro rotor. The movement aesthetics, the architecture, and the finishing really spoke to me. And eventually, a 240 caliber was the first watch I ever purchased for myself. Nobody warned me that they weren't as efficient at winding, when compared to normal rotors. So this post is to inform others of the potential drawbacks of micro rotors, but at the same time to celebrate them.
Having spoken with many movement designers, many movement designers are considering integrating micro rotors and peripheral rotors into the next generation of automatic movements; as a thinner movement does seem to be in vogue currently.
