I think for many of us, Geneva would be a more attractive destination.

It is also a bit sad to see such an old fair go down the drain. IMO mostly due to mismanagement.

I think the management failed to appreciate the exhibitors ie their clients as much as they should have and over rated the importance of Baselworld to the brands. Big mistake!

No Swatch Group, question mark about LVMH... and what about all the small brands which were exhibiting at Basel ?

is actually the big brands with their huge exhibition space. The revenue derived from the small brands and independents is unlikely to sustain the show. Saying that, Basel is also a jewellery fair so let's see what future lies ahead.

unless they wanted this to happen so that they can use the venue for something else! I think the management of Rolex, Patek and the Swatch Group have been terribly patient with the organisers but everyone has their limits. Anyway, this change can only be ... 

This outcome was inevitable and self inflicted by the organisers. Pity for them. Good for the majority!

is that no matter how strong an organisation is, the importance of the customer should never be under rated or over looked.

They had plenty of chances to make things right.

that the brands take control of the annual show that exhibits their latest watches rather than the organisers holding them at ransom. I am quite certain that the FHH will do things in the interest of the brands as the FHH represents the industry.

I made a comment in the original Baselworld postponed thread about how I thought it was wrong to say it was postponed when it was actually cancelled for this year. But it looks like saying it was postponed as opposed to cancelled somehow made them think t... 

I think it is all to do with cash flow. By holding the money of the exhibitors, the organisers would have to borrow less money from the banks and besides it is less work administratively to keep the monies. I have little doubt that there were 'administrat... 

That said, it will be nice to go to Geneva for a change and it should be a heck of a show with all the combined things.

but to have both shows in the same city is not too bad a thing for many of us. And Geneva as you probably know is a lovely city!

First of all, all these big brands will have to find a way to live together during one week. Not easy. We can already feel a lack of enthusiam from some. I don't say more. We still don't know the position from Swatch Group, from LVMH. Babin was very happy... 

what will happen to the small brands and independents. Previously for them, Basel was an excellent place to exhibit as it was well attended. With the withdrawal of the large brands, the attendance will fall dramatically. I believe the SIHH had an open day...

I for one will not miss Baselworld. Having been to the SIHH several times as well as Baselworld, I thought there was always a strange "bazaar" atmosphere at baselworld... Seems also MCH was completely blindsided by the news:
