Horological Meandering

My first love of Simplicity is the design with the rail in the middle of of the watch  with a crown that seems oversize. 

It looks very classical and filled with a nice tension. It's the 34 mm version but I didn't know.

But when I ordered mine, I followed everyone else. I ordered a 37mm version. Only to realise that the 37 mm version has the rail on the outside and a crown that is not 'oversize' since the case is bigger now.  That's when I discover what I love at first sight (photograph) was a 34 mm version, how silly.

Still, the 37mm Simplicity is extremely beautiful and I'm also in awe with it. I'm happy to live with that.

Only thing that bugs me is the elongated lugs which I find it way too long on the 37mm version. It doesn't sit nicely on my wrist.

Till one day I saw Mr Dufour wearing the 34mm Simplicity on his giant wrist. I totally understand why he did that in the first place.

The size just seems right and the watch proportion on his wrist just create a beautiful tension that makes me want to look at it.

That's when I know 34mm is what I truly WANT .

So immediately I try to hunt for the 34mm version. Ends up most of the 34mm versions are in Japan and to get a Japanese collector to sell me

a Simplicity or even a trade is near impossible. Whatever goes in there, never come out ;-P

So I waited and waited till I found someone from Australia who has one early version of 34mm Simplicity who he has never worn. He bought it and just simply kept it in his safe. The strap (which Dufour only supplies one) is totally brand new and has double croc lining.

I happily pay thru my nose and get the watch. Watch is totally stunning and I'm a happy man. Then a few days after wearing the watch, it stops occasionally . For some reason, I think it has to do with the previous owner long time keeping the watch in the safe unwind.

I quickly email Dufour about the incident. 

A usual email to Dufour requires 3-4 weeks of waiting time to get a reply.

But this time round, I get a reply in 2 days

Watch was sent immediately to him and I'm thinking it may take another 6-12 months before I see this baby again.

Never did I know that it was returned to me in a month's time, iirc. I know it's very fast.

I did ask about the cost but hear nothing , then I see it on the warranty card stating the watch has been serviced and it's free ;-P

Mr Dufour is not a savvy person as it comes to sales and marketing or even replying emails.....

But he definitely very much believes in his work and his babies (Simplicity).

I have huge respect for what he does and he is a true gentleman.

I feel proud to have a piece of his creation. Very proud.

So in conclusion, I prefer the 34mm because that was his original intention. The 37mm version I believe was suggested to him by Peter Chong, Jaw and some other collectors. Both pieces have a place in history

I would like to have a RG 37mm faux enamel version too .
