Horological Meandering

Well we know the Journe auction market is totally nuts. And don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Journe But ….. The day a rather basic FP Journe ( yeah yeah, I know the “brass mouvement” crap) sells for as good as the same price as a Patek Philippe perpe...  

…or in ANY case (I mean J, R, G or P 😉) for sure I pick the PP even if I love FPJ too 👍 Both are two gorgeous offerings but this PP is in another league so for the same price I would not hesitate one second!

And in all honesty I think I'd be likelier to wear it than that Patek! But the thought that that Journe should be worth as much as that Patek? Absolutely laughable.

when people don't think rationally at auctions. Yes it is their money and they can spend it however they wish but when a complicated Patek fetches a much lower price than a time only Akrivia AK06 or a FPJ, then I salute anyone buying a complicated Patek. ... 

Then I wonder if I have any brain

I doubt this is about which will be worn, but simply about the fact that the FPJ will increase in value, just like a painting. Brass movement FPJ and all that jazz that put his watches in this category to begin with would make me bank on the expectation t... 

But we’ve seen these sorts of maniacal hypes in watches before, and most of the time, the party stops very abruptly.

That is established fact

The market believes that the Journe will be at least as good a store of money as the Patek while at the same time having upside the Patek does not.

so I hope it got to someone who loves early Journes and had the disposable income. I not sure that one should call this stupidity in that crazy hobby of ours. Is it stupid to pay more for a watch than for a Porsche or a Steinway? I sometimes wonder. Best ... 

And while that other way is objectively the better watch, guess which one has more “value” today? If this is a financial decision, which at $500,000 it has to be in some way, then I am buying the Journe too. Fortunately for me, my 5711 into that other wat... 

minute repeater is a dream. The perpetual calendar is just a bonus on top of the repeater 😂

I get a sense that FPJ collectors and investor groups could be self funding the FPJ rise - à la De Bethune more recently and Panerai in the past. Let's hope for all independent makers this doesn't spiral too out of control - because at Watches and Wonders...
