Hi watchwerker,
He's mistaken. Both manual wind watches and automatics are mechanical, but a mechanical automatic is definitely NOT a manual wind. And Baselworld is open to the public: no invitation necessary. The guy is either confused/deluded or trying to pull one over on you.
