good review SJX. something i didnt manage to collect during my military period
that was mainly due to price. from experience i can say, as you quite rightly stated, that prices for the Hanharts and Tutima are very high even in poor condition. Vixa and Breguet are also up in the higher echelons of price. i suppose its because they are more wearable than the 55mm Laco's etc and are chrono's.
its great to have gaps in knowledge filled in by others. i knew Tutima went to the Soviets, but didnt realise that hanhart continued making watches as you never see them on the used market.

The originals were similar finished in nickel over brass
but the civilian versions with white dials had polished cases. - SJX

This was a very good read about the history of pilot watches. It is my understanding that IWC made watches for both the German Luftwaffe and also for the British Royal Air Force RAF. Excellent post!
