Glorious past
I am on my annual two month European stay (mostly in my old country, Hungary). On one of my recent wandering in Budapest I came across this beautiful building from 1898 in Art Nouveau style.
As the mosaic inlaid sign shows it was the building for the vocational school for mechanics and watch making and repair. It functioned as such till the 1940’s. Watch making and repair education stopped in 1920.
The translation of the inscription is:
Royal Hungarian Vocational School for Mechanical Work and Watch Industry
Nice memento of a time when the watch industry had a more dominant position.
