2013: Perhaps a Square, Rectangular or Tonneau?

 By: iim7v7im7 : December 19th, 2012-08:04
Hi, I am seeking the wisdom of the PuristSPro community. I am considering adding a new shape of watch to my collection. Something that is a good every day type watch in that it is at home in a sports coat to a pair of blue jeans. I am thinking stainle...

Just a single chart?

You need to do more homework, Bob. :) Seriously though, My vote goes to the JLC. You get a in house piece that's not just a different shape for you, but also an iconic and instantly recognizable design. Price wise it's also good value. My 2c.

Elimination

I would first eliminate the one watch that tries to put a round peg into a square hole, opps sorry, a round movement into a four sided case. Just doesn't seem right to me. The manufacture can definitely do better at the price it's charging.

JLC

I'd go with the Jaeger, Without giving it so much as a second thought. The Wempe case just doesn't appeal to me, and I never liked watches that fitted round movements into another case shape. Add to that the historic importance of the reverso, its classic...

I don't have the slightest idea

what you will choose. I would take Reverso without any hesitation. Best, Kari

Always enjoy your 'spread sheets', Bob ...

Do you have one for your entire collection? As to these choices it would come down to the 1945 and the Reverso for me. The Reverso is iconic and a pleasure on the wrist. You have several sizes and thicknesses across the range too, so you can easily find o...

the Wempe uses a Nomos in-house calibre so thats 2 in house.

if you dont have a german watch and like the look of the wempe i would go with that so you add a new brand AND a new country. but really you should go for what you like the best. our opinions count for nothing when it comes to personal taste. G

Germany

in that case go for the one you like most. G

I have a JLC as well...

All I was saying is that I have both German and Swiss watches in my line-up I will need to visit Wempe in NYC to check out how they all feel. I can also try JLC there and swing across the street to try a GP at Cellini. I noticed that the GP has a pinned ...

Go with what feels best

I had the same "dilemma" some years back and made my own list. I ended with with the same JLC that's on your short list and have no regrets with it. It might feel a little small when compared to the other pieces that you already have though, so it's somet...

I have looked at Franck Mullers and Parmigiani Fleuriers as well. The dials on the Franck Muller's and the lugs on the Parmigiani really don't agree with my aesthetic tastes. I am beginning to lean towards a dark dialed watch. This really leaves the GP an...

Dark dial?

 By: vitalsigns : December 23rd, 2012-05:35
Go for the Reverso Duo. Really the best of both worlds. Both silver and dark dials and seems to be within your price range given the cost of the GP 1945. John

The GP Vintage 45 is a superb watch, but I would go for the JLC.

 By: amanico : December 19th, 2012-22:34
You have the choice of different sizes with JLC, while you may have to go for the early GP Vintage 45 from the ealry 2000's to find a small one. Best, Nicolas

Thanks to all - Still Thinking it over

Thoughts... Girard Perregaux Vintage 1945 XXL + horological significance of brand (new brand to collection as well) + distinct Art Deco style with curved case + available in light or dark dial + proven workhorse calibre + assured long-term service - may b...

Have a read through this archive post. John dissected the base calibre of a sister watch. Watchmakers I have spoken to are generally very impressed with the practical performance of the GP3300. It is used as a base for many other complications from chron...

A surprising turn in events

 By: iim7v7im7 : December 26th, 2012-04:03
To my surprise, another watch (completely different) has come to my attention. Such is the nature of this hobby. It rounds out my collection in a different way. Some hints.... It is made by one of the brands that I already have, adds another dark dial, a ...
