Survey Top 5 "Worst" Watches in last Decade

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 23rd, 2009-15:12
I know that it is maybe incorrect and I know that I risk removal of this post by our Moderators but I’m really curious about this topic What PuristS consider as “worst” pieces in last decade regarding design, futileness of complications used and sticking ...

Haha, brilliant post

 By: dannymc : April 23rd, 2009-15:55
What a nice idea. You're right about the Zenith Defy, shocking! I assume that when you say 'worst' you mean worst from the brands of which we expect more, because otherwise I could go all day! Either way, 1. Zenith Defy, no question! 2. That Azimuth Lambo...

How can you....

 By: DRMW : April 23rd, 2009-16:54
How can you forget to add Romaine-Jerome on the list?????? LOL! -MW

WOW..........WOW

 By: brokenwrist : April 23rd, 2009-19:12
that is the ugliest watch ive ever seen. that watch makes the daytona leopard look like a 5070G nicely done. kevin

...Oh, I saw somebody wearing this thing...I told him...

 By: p@p@ : April 23rd, 2009-19:38
...he's not wearing it correctly...he should be wearing this in his ankle...he looked at me baffled and he did not really know what to say...i said to myself..."stu- - d, mor-n" and continued on my way... This message has been edited by ppcollector on 200...

The problem is …

 By: AndrewD : April 23rd, 2009-19:55
… it doesn’t “stick out from Romain Jerome’s DNA like something from punch bowl”, to paraphrase Damien’s post, it is their DNA. Actually, I rather like the fact that there are companies around that push us out of our comfort zone and give us things to dis...

The problem with the H8...

 By: DonCorson : April 24th, 2009-04:00
is that it is IMHO actually very beautiful. It is just, in my book at least, not a watch. I'd say call it kinetic sculpture. I think that Zenith has done such a good job with their Defy watches that they really define the genre. I can't think of anything ...

Nataf leaving Zenith

 By: DonCorson : April 26th, 2009-12:52
According to the L'Express/L'Impartial in Neucâtel in an article from the 24th of April Thierry Nataf is being relieved of his post at Zenith. www.arcinfo.ch The date is not certain, but it could already be during May. Being very flamboyant may simply not...

Now that is an interesting coincidence

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 26th, 2009-15:23
looking at replays Defy is "worst" what happened in last 10 years who knows if this was Mr. Nataf biggest "sin" Thank you for sharing Sincerely This message has been edited by Ares501 on 2009-04-26 15:25:58

Dan #2 is the Azimuth triple barrel tourbillon. nothing to do with Lambo whatsoever

 By: G99 : April 24th, 2009-08:11
apart from the fact that Luc loved the look of the watch personally i like the style which is not intended to look like any particular car, just to have design cues from the car industry. it is similar, but definately not a copy of an Urwerk. only 2 rotat...

Danny, there is 1 Jacob & co that is good. only 1 i hasten to add

 By: G99 : April 24th, 2009-08:48
i cant remember the name, but it has 7 mainsprings in cylindrical form and 30+ day power reserve. looks a bit like the Cabestan. that deserves to be made by someone other than Jacob & co so that it doesnt get a bad rep. if my first post was a bit defensiv...

Graham...

 By: dannymc : April 24th, 2009-10:39
Graham, absolutely no offence taken and you are of course entitled to defend any watch/brand that you have a liking for, in fact having read alot of your posts, most of the time your opinions are very close to my own. You're right about the Jacob&Co Quent...

Dan, i find it very...

 By: G99 : April 24th, 2009-10:58
Dan, i find it very difficult to criticise any mechanical watch unless its totally stupid. there's some good in nearly everything i see. best Me

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 25th, 2009-02:17

Honestly speaking been a little tiny bored with watch world. But, hey I guess I need to contribute to help Spore economy, so I called the notorious watch pusher to negotiate the rolex leopard and a watch that I think resembles a "bra on wrist" in white go...

I can't think of anyone to whose perfectly measured collection this Rolex would fit better Well done and congratulations You are the man of THE taste Best Damian

This is a temptation that's impossible to resist, Damian . . .

 By: Dr No : April 23rd, 2009-22:46
. . . I know I'm going to be on the receiving end of many comments for this nomination, but in my opinion, the Lange 31 should be at the top of the list. A power reserve of a few days is sufficient in a manual winding watch. A reserve of a week is a demon...

Strange - I think the Lange 31

 By: 219 : April 24th, 2009-01:53
is exactly that - engineering at the limit. What you learn about metal for the winding springs, the expansion properties, and how to control is can feed through to other watches. It adds to knowledge and reputation. The less we (the user) interferes with ...

Unquestionably, the 31 exemplifies Lange's engineering skills . . .

 By: Dr No : April 24th, 2009-08:15
. . . and I can appreciate the research involved in making it work, Andrew, but it's the ostensible purpose and concomitant cost of such a design that I find baffling. An endless reserve of power can be achieved with self-winding . . . I find it difficult...

Should have been a pocket watch

 By: Moses. : April 24th, 2009-07:38
Lange 31 movement, key winding, in a pocket watch, maybe with a perpetual calendar. That would have made more sense.

Extremely interesting choice

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 25th, 2009-15:24
I would never nominated it in my wildest dreams but your argument is, as usual, more than well tailored Sincerely Dr. Damian This message has been edited by Ares501 on 2009-04-25 15:40:14

No risk or removal, nor Blacklist, Damian

 By: amanico : April 23rd, 2009-23:22
This is a super post! The Rolex Dayto LE for Mobutu is indeed a winner in my book, followed by the Zenith Defy, an extraordinary competitor. I would put a Panerai Ferrari, an aberration, to me. Then I need to find 2 others: - The" Qui bene amat bene Casti...

and if you only knew my friend

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 25th, 2009-15:45
how much I struggled not to put Amvox III on my list ... pure torturement :0))) but then I remembered legendary divers piece with tourbillon ,0) of course no offense as you said Best Damian

Torture? You said Torture?

 By: amanico : April 25th, 2009-22:54
As a good Torquemada I am, you called me? This is an important point you mentionned: NO OFFENSE. I wouldn't feel offensed if you put in your list a piece I love ( in this case the amvox III ). This kind of exercize of style is very difficult, and of cours...

Oh Dear!!

 By: Sonny : April 24th, 2009-06:38
I have the Zenith which I think is very eye catching and I like it. The VC and the RM is actually on this year's shopping list. I cant think of the my worst list because sometime I feel they are nice and sometime I think they are ugly. It really depend on...

No hard feelings I hope this is just

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 26th, 2009-08:55
my choice... my thinking how some great companies like Zenith made production lines that just don't fit into their history but hey that is maybe great future ahead... also as Andrew nicely put it few threads above my main intention was not to spit on cert...

Fine thread. Does Kinetic Sculpture(too prevalent these days)...

 By: Ronald Held : April 24th, 2009-08:00
automatically make it a bad watch?

thats right...

 By: Jean : April 24th, 2009-11:16
In no particular order, 1. AP RB3 2. AP Shaq 3. RM05 4. Cvstos 5. Franck Muller (many but to be fair not all)

This is a great post. More diversity and opinions please.

 By: bernard cheong : April 25th, 2009-19:01
This question you riased is excellent. One small qualification..like cars..or furniture..the worst are often collectable. However, to be historic, relevant, or collectable..it really has to be bad. No halfway or unitas stuff...but really outstandingly wei...

Great point you made

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : April 26th, 2009-08:36
Unfortunately plenty of them not all are just BAD not bad or weir enough plain bad without good and ugly Sincerely Damian

While unable or perhaps unwilling to compile a personal Top 5,

 By: tony p : April 25th, 2009-19:19
I can certainly isolate two rather egregious examples of once-mighty brands stooping to new lows in their recent output. 1. Zenith 2. Roger Dubuis In the first instance, we have a company which, in better days, contributed one of the leading chronograph c...
