COSC, METAS, and "in-house" are all smoke and mirrors.

Here you have my CWC W10 reissue (the Mellor-72) running on the Sellita calibre SW210. It outperforms every other watch in my collection in terms of accuracy. It is the reigning champ.
I don't think all a watch is boils down to movement accuracy. You also get a certain aesthetic from the dial and design, you get a certain level of art and craftsmanship from high-end movement finishing, and you get extra functionality from complications. But in the simplest terms a watch is a tiny engineering marvel, a little machine whose basic purpose is to tell the time and do so accurately. In that regard I am pleasantly amazed at how well a humble movement calibre outperforms all other pieces in my collection, most of which are multiples of the price. I think that many watch manufacturers use COSC, METS, and "in-house" as crutches to prop up their pieces. These labels are used to give an air of superiority that can be used to justify the retail price they decide to affix to their watches.
