Chronometre Bleu

Aug 19, 2011,18:56 PM

Hi guys,

Something new.

The Journe CB made my mouth water the moment I saw it.

This blue dial can simply never be captured in any pic.

It’s like looking into a deep chromium blue mirror.

Or a blue liquor drink… with a splash of cream and mercury…

If the CS is Journe’s idea of texture, the CB is Journe’s idea of smoothness.

You can look INTO this dial, as you can into a mirror or water.

Yet it is also very reflective, and runs the full spectrum of blue, depending…

Every detail is right and true, and bears the ‘fingerprints’ of a highly evolved watchmaker. Maybe a highly evolved watchmaker who seems to be having a lot of fun, too.

One of the big attractions for me has been the Tantalum case.

It comes across visually as a pewter-gray-blue.

Stealth is an understatement.

But for the aficionado… heavenly sublime.

It is no color blue that anyone can name, is it? Tantalum is still a new experience for us visually. How can any of us begin …? The case-shape is pure Journe, classic, yet modern. And the thinnest Journe to date, if I am not mistaken.

It is thin by today’s standards, and denotes a ‘proper’ dress watch, yet at the same time, the color of the dial is irrepressibly, well, blue!

And the numbers and hands are well, cream color! This is not a stuffy dinner watch! But could you wear it to the finest event of your life? Most definitely yes.

The cream numerals and hands are NOT white, NOT bright, but soft and legible, and the Journe Numbers in their circular display, seem to deliver happiness like a happiness-faucet running with no shut off switch.

It is just absolutely, completely, hypnotically designed. I love the word Nicolas often uses: cohesive.

The design is cohesive. No weak link here.

And the rose gold movement against the Tantalum case? Whew! Talk about cool! You gotta see this rg movement inside this blue case… crazy hot, crazy cool.

The CB is Reductive… to the barest most essential Journe elements, and blue!

When I wear this watch, I feel much cooler, much more seductive, and much more of a hotshot than I actually am!

I need a blue Martini to go with this watch.

It must be among the most cosmopolitan watches a man can wear.

But it is also an example of traditional watchmaking and design at a giggle-inducingly high level.

Well, here are my (as usual) casual pics

This is the first dress watch in years that I had to have. I think because it is so unusual in every way... and that it can be worn casually. I tend to be 'cautious' when I first get a watch... love? I never know til I keep a watch for a couple years... b...

so much to love!

I got a little passionate! But if you can't find passion for watches like this... maybe you don't have any!

Enlightenment, Mostel?

Congratulations on a great F.P.Journe. I enjoyed your poetic words very much and I always love it when another Purist reaches enlightenment. I have long since decided that when it comes to F.P.Journe, you either 'get it' or you don't. There never seems to...

Andrew, I've always admired Journe

But none of his designs were ever 'mine'. The foremost collectors in my acquaintance all own Journes, or several Journes. And I've always been blown away by his excellence at all levels. I admire these men, so I pay attention to their choices in watches, ...

As the others wrote....

it must be love.... Congratulations on getting a beautiful watch... Your words demonstrate a passion that Journe owners have..... As Andrew said, one either loves Journe watches or does not.... I was close getting a CB but plans changed... However I am st...

Yes, I guess I was waxing a bit... I love talking about watches, so also love writing words about them, naturally.

Splendid!

That's a beautiful piece, Mostel! And you are clearly very, very pleased with it -- congratulations. I would love to have an opportunity to photograph this watch! Best, Gary G

Well, perhaps there will come a time when you can photograph my watch--I have little doubt you will do abetter job than me! Anyway, it would be a pleasure if we could get together at some point, to do that. Perhaps a GTG. But wait! I got a new camera... a...

I quite literally just finished posting about this piece on another forum, and this is the first post I stumble onto here! What are the odds? Now, not only does it haunt my dreams, but apparently my waking moments as well. But seriously, while dress watch...

It's always 'haunting' when a watch follows you around like this. I too do not wear dress watches all that much... and little by little sold virtually all of my dress watches... but this watch.... it's just one of a kind. This may be the first watch that ...

Agreed...

As beautiful as this piece is in pictures, they simply don't do it justice. I've been back to the boutique twice to try it on, and I'll probably head back over again next week. No, I don't have the funds on hand to buy one now, but like a moth drawn to a ...

You know... I purposely chose those odd photos of the dial to offer a different expression of the watch... I know this is the Purists... and I really admire those extraordinary photographers among us... but I kept seeing 'the same' photo of the CS everywh...

Wonderful addition, Mostel!
