Hi everyone. Over the past years, I've sold quite a few watches to second hand dealers. About 30% of the watches I buy have to leave again after some time, because love faded away.
I'm Always selling to the same 2-3 dealers I've had good experience with. When selling 3 watches this year, I've had a Talk with them and the second hand market has also changed drastically. A few years ago they where buying pretty much every watch I brought them. Nowadays they are almost only buying the well known wanted models by PP, AP, Rolex and some other highly collectible watches. Everything else, including Well known brands Like JLC, Panerai and IWC they're only selling on commission now. Quote "I've already got 17 Panerai in stock and didn't sell a single one in the past 3 months." Another quote "everything that's Not Rolex, PP Nautilus or Aquanaut or AP Royal Oak is more or less Not sellable. I've sold 4 Blancpain in the past year."
So I ask myself: it's one thing to have a high demand in Nautilus and Steel Rolex, it's something Else, that other watches don't sell anymore. When I startet collecting watches, I liked the diversity of the watch Market. So many people collecting and showing so many different watches, brands and complications. Is it still fun to be a collector in the current market if all you See is Patek, AP and Rolex everywhere? Isn't uniformity contradicting collectability?
